Hey extreme Gainstown guys.
I recently stumbled upon Intel Xeon E5520 (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=40200) which is a nice Nehalem for DP configuration working @ 2.26Ghz, and only retails for 373$.

Considering the insane and non linear increase of "$$$ per Mhz" in the Xeon 55XX family, this is a real bargain.

THE question is: is there any board which supports DP configuration and decent OC abilities ?

I have seen some decently priced ASUS boards for around 250$ and overall the O.K boards from Tyan and SuperMicro are not that expensive, around 300$.

If so, it can be a hell of a workstation for good price and killer performance.

Thanks to those who can share some info.

I have this setup on my work computer, dual E5520's running on Asus Z8PE-12. This mother board and afaik all other Intel 5500 chipsets have no overclocking features. Still makes a great workstation, lots of multi-threaded computing power without extreme heat or power issues.

There are plenty of DP LGA1366 boards, newegg shows 48 of em. I use the Asus Z8PE-12; while it is a good mobo it is not an OC'ers board. While the DP boards are 1366, they are NOT x58 chipsets. The chipsets these boards use are Intel 5520's or 5500; these chipsets have no overclocking features, they are designed for servers/workstations.

You were almost right :D

Moahh, Dual Xeons+EVGA is going to be a killer

I guess 5520/5500 chipsets can be overclocked :p:

I'm very impress with the result you post, but I wonder how u get ur X5550 @ mutiplier 22,I have one ES X5550 but B0 stepping, able to get 180x20 on my P6T7 WS Supercom board,it seems 180 is a BLCK wall for the ES chip, very interested to knoe how u get it @ mutiplier 22?

I'm really hoping that the EVGA board allows you to use i920s (since they say you can use two different CPUs, with different multipliers), but I'm not too hopeful. I think the E5xxx Xeons have an extra QPI link or something, which may be required?

Its not going to. The 920 dont have DP component in it. ( link needed in the proc )

But the newer DP EVGA board seems to be something very interesting. I really hope that EVGA had put lots of OC option in it. This can be the first DP board with decent OCability. :D:D
