I want to know how to hook up my logitech z-5500 speakers aswell as my 24in full HD Dell monitor to a PS3/360.

The monitor has component video input..
The speakers have coax and optical input open..

I need to know the best cables to buy to hook either a ps3/360(haven't decided which to buy yet) to both the monitor and the speakers.

I want to take full advantage of the 5.1 surround sound of the speakers and full HD of the monitor.

thanks

I'm not sure about the PS3 but for the 360 you plug the component video cables into the monitor and the end of the cables which plugs into the 360 has an optical out connection which you'll need to get an optical cable for and connect it to your speakers.

I have mine hooked upto Z5400 and Dell 24" monitor,

I bought the VGA cable which goes to the back of my Dell Monitor and then it has an SPDIF connecter which goes to my Z5400s.

PS3 has a Fiber Optic Out connection, i highly recommend using that for these speakers, check out http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ for good pricing on that cable

the monitor also has at least one DVI/HDMI input, right?
for video, use DVI/HDMI for everything, and a switch if necessary/desired

both PS3 and 360 and your speakers have toslink digital optical, so again, use that and a switch.

most sound cards can't decode an optical signal to their true multi-channel signal, they just see a high quality stereo sound source. Auzentech has been explaining this to me over 3 emails, I find it to be complete BS. Using CMSS3D is not an option to make 5.1, it's not true multi-channel.
