Hi guys,

Christmas is almost here... time to upgrade my rig! :D

What I plan to do this year is to update to SSD drives, also, my two Nvidia 280 GTX will be upgrated to a single 4970 WC.

I plan to do some maintenance on my Phase Change unit and since I have to remove the AC fan anyway I thought that I could try and find something that is less loud, as the condenser fan is by far the most noisy part of my rig.

I've talked to Little Devil about this, he says he used a an emb papst 4656N as condenser fan in my unit.

It is rated 94.2 CFM, with 46.7 dBA, it's 230V as I'm from Barcelona.

LittleDevil says I wanna be looking for 90CFM fans aprox.

Could you please suggest a similar fan that would have a lower noise ratio?

I wouldn't mind loosing a bit of performance from my unit (saying moving from 250W to 240W), in exchange of lower noise ratios, as long as my unit keeps working.

Also, I've noticed that AC manufacturers are not concearned about noise levels at all, would it be possible to have a small 220V AC to 12V DC converter to power a 12V fan?

Why not just use a standard 140mm 12v fan with a really long pigtail and wrap it around the evap tube into your system and then plug it into the motherboard or a fan controller?

Great idea but a 140 might be to big for the shroud. How about a 120?

I don't think your understanding, this would require about as much "modding" as installing a case fan lol. We're merely suggesting that you replace your current AC fan with a 12v DC 120mm, order from a site like Performance-PC's and Hank can even modify the connector for you to any length you'd like.

Also, by plugging it into your motherboard you could also monitor the RPM's. :up:

This is an idea I considered too, I have a few questions though,

I don't want to turn on my PC unless the evaporator reaches -20ºC, will it be able to get down to that temp. if there's no fan cooling the condensor?

Also, let's say that I turn on my phase, but I forget to turn my computer on, what would hapen of my phase change unit if there's no cooling?

Wich DC fan would you recomend for the job?

With no fan for a minute or two you should still be able to get the evap down to subzero temps with no load.

You're going to want something 90cfm+ with good static pressure, so definitely a 38mm fan (120x38mm). A SanAce would be my first choice.

Do you have an available three prong plug open on the controller? or maybe a molex ?

As you can see in this list, I'm devating with two options, using a 12V SANACE fan (wich apears to be the best one under paper) or a 230V one.

I could use these converter (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/image/9107/bus-193.jpg/bus-193/AC_to_DC_Adapter_-_110V_AC_to_12V_DC_Converter_w_Standard_4_Pin_500m A_Max.html) to make my 12V fan work inmediately when I turn on the phase unit, without turning on my computer.

As for open pron plug, well, Little Devil makes pretty clean instalations, AC wires that go to my current fan can be easily removed and be attached either to the AC DC converter or to an AC SANACE fan.

My question is, wich way to go?

EDIT: Actualy about the converter, I think I should buy these one instead (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/6084/bus-107/AC_to_DC_Adapter_-_110V_AC_to_12V_5V_DC_Converter_w_Standard_4_Pin_2 000mA_Max.html), it has a better Intensity output

The controller may have a three prong 12v fan plug on it that you can use. All you would have to buy is a 12v fan. If there isn't an extra plug on the controller you could plug a 12v fan into a molex from your power supply.

Check out digikey aswell. Newark/Farnell are not good prices for fans.

I don't have a controler thought, I'll probably install the SANACE AC fan on the unit and see how it performs.
