I would like to run eyefinity without having to buy a monitor that has a Display port. Is there a recommended DP -> DVI adapter or will any cheapo work the same? (I couldn't find this answer with a search; thanks in advance.)

Bodkin, please do some research before you post an ill advised suggestion. If you want to use a 3rd monitor, an active DP to DVI adapter is needed.

I have problems with the mini displayport adapter provided with the sapphire 5970.

I have connected up the DP cable to my DELL 2408WFP, connected the other end to the 5970 using the MiniDP adapter and all I get is 640x480!

I'm gonna try another cable tonight which hopefully will solve the problem.

Is there any advantage to a Display port vs a straight HDMI, or is Display port merely an implementation detail? I'm asking because my Sony LCD TV has a very poor picture quality using a straight HDMI to HDMI connection from my HD 5850.

Surely its a digital signal so it should not make any difference.

Apple sells a mini DP converter, but its a $100.

When are we going to see a DP Hub is my question.

I have heard the Apple adapter is very problematic, unless you use it with a Mac of course ;)

***WARNING***

For anyone thinking of buying one of these Bizlink/Dell adapters... DON'T!!!

I got mine and the monitor on the adapter flashes on and off. Buy a monitor that supports native Display Port!

anyone know if these will work with the 5970? It says the usb provides audio over it.. so not sure exactly if it is active as well.

I hear people are using displayport to VGA adapters just fine. The difference between digital and vga is really small in the scheme of things. It also saves some money for grabbin a bag of funyuns while slap'n some zombies.

Same issue: On and off flickering of the DP screen by using this adapter. It seems though that certain monitor and adapter combinations work perfect.

By my estimation it seems to be adapter specific. I was using Samsung 2343BX monitors on a 5870; another user on wsgf reported using this same config no problems. So it seems that some of the adapters are bad and some work. I would recommend not even taking the chance and getting a monitor with a native DP.

I am ditching my Samsung 2343BX's and ordered 3 Dell P2310H monitors; lesson learned the current DP>DVI adapters suck!

DP>VGA?

It looks like it does but not always a sure thing, I think some problems have been reported. If you already have the monitors give it a go.

u would need an active converter box since DP is digital video, so i dont think that it would be a good idea as something like the HD fury is about $100

Yes it does work. You can use DVI to VGA on both DVI ports on your 5800 series cards BUT you must have a display connected to the displayport in order for eyefinity to work. the Active adapters seem to be hit and miss and so does the DP to VGA . I am running Eyefinity( 3 x 22" lcd's) for 2 weeks and my on and off flickering comes and goes. There are guys on other forums that have no issues of flickering with the same adapter thus my comment earlier.

The best solution is a DP Display. If you can wait Sapphire is bringing out a Active Adapter which is very similar to the ones out but they say it works. Wil have to see when it hits the market.
