I've got some problems with my 5870 and the EK watercooler -- pixel errors by using the watercooling.

The cooler is installed according the manual by using the thermal pads, washers and the stock backplane.

I tried to install the cooler several times ...
With the stock air cooler there are no problems. :shakes:

Hmm, did you pull the block off after installing it to check for proper contact?

I have two EK waterblocks on my 5850's and both are working just fine.

What's your temps using the water block ?

The temps are okay - ~ 24°C idle - 30°C load

I think all of the VRAMs got contact - so im wondering why there are still pixel errors.

Is this happening at stock clocks or overclocked?

Stock settings.

It's the standard Sapphire Radeon HD5870.

so are you saying that you have replaced the stock cooler to test the card, or it worked before the block was placed?

Chances are you are either flexing the PCB too much or you are shorting out something. My 4870x2 EK fullcover block would occassionally short out the GPU1 vgddr circuit depending on how I had the card positioned, so I taped up all the non-contact surfaces. If you always have screen corruption I'd blame PCB flexing.

1) The stock cooler worked before and after installing the watercooler.

2) Well I'll check that.

Yeh, it has to be a short, luckily it seems reversible and nothing has fried (since it works when you remove it).

Be very careful with the screw that goes through the PCB right next to the water inlet and outlet. There's no stand-off for that screw and it's VERY easy to tighten too much and bend the PCB in that area.

Did you use the included stand-off's?

Now there are some pixel errors while using air cooling too.

Maybe one of the vrams is defective.
I'll try to heat up the vrams to restore the connection between pcb an the rams. I think the solder could be broken.

Yes, of cause.

Yes, of cause.

You say "yes, of course" as if everyone uses the stand-off's. Not everyone does. That's why I asked.

Sure - you right. I'm just a little pissed on.

About 6-20 pixel errors @ 1920x1200 and no problems with EK watercooling on the 8800GTS, 4850, 4870X² - that drives me crazy.

Edit: There're errors just 2D with installed ati driver without driver and ingame no problems.
While installing the driver appears a mistake "not enough space on f:- 833kbytes needed". The rest of the installations works.
I don't now how to handle with this ...
The windows 7 system is running on c: and d: partitions!?
