Normal GTX295?

Hey guys so recently my gtx295 has been acting wierd, over heating, etc. One of the new things is if i have my DVI connected to the "bottom" dvi connection the computer will boot but its in like 16bit mode and reinstalling the driver does nothing. Once plugged back into the top DVI port its fine, is this normal? Because its a SLI Card in theory is it because SLI is enabled the bottom one acts all funny?

The top port is the primary. The only time you would use the bottom port, if you had two displays. The primary must be populated at all times...
