Antec is readying Lanboy Air for CES

Wondering what Antec is cooking up for 2010? Even if the answer is 'meh' you still might be interested in the LanBoy Air, a new gamer-oriented mid-tower PC case that will be officially announced at CES 2010 in January.

The upcoming chassis features a mesh design for better ventilation, a modular construction, has three exposed 5.25-inch bays, a front (top) I/O panel with one eSATA, two audio and two USB ports, a removable motherboard tray, suspension mounts for up to six hard drives, and two drilled holes for the tubing of watercooling systems.

The LanBoy Air would be equipped by default with no less than five fans - two 120mm fans in the front and one at the rear, and a couple of TriCool spinners on the side panel.

Antec is still working on the chassis so certain things may still change but the overall look and feel should remain like this. Once out, the LanBoy Air is said to be priced at about 200 Euro.

I don't wanna offend Antec designers, but they really did jump over their head to make one of the ugliest cases ever IMO. :shakes:

Given I have a place in my heart for their 180 line ( and I have some respect for the 900, there I said it .... ) I am somewhat shocked to say the least.

It is a novel concept, one I feel has wings but the overall feel just isn't... attractive?

They have gone down massively in terms of the quality cases they used to produce. The P180 were so well made and designed. Then they started down the path of cheap and cheerful with the 900, 1200, 300, Skeleton. And now they come up with this utter monstrosity.

Haha, this made me laugh as I was thinking the same ! :D Antec used to make good looking produc, I owned a nine hundred and it was looking fine...but that case is like a punch in your face. Unless the air flow is really superior, I believe there is alot more good looking product in the market.

Funny thing is, no matter how good the airflow, it still can't compete against a open a benchtable, so dumping 200 on this won't make sense if someone is looking for better airflow.

that's only true if you install fans that blow air over your open benchtable,
inside a well ventilated case the overall motherboard temp and other components will actually be lower due to the forced air, where as on a bench table without extra cooling the hot air will not be "blown" off

Because gamers use 5.1 ch headphones at full blast and sit 2 inches away from 22 - 24" very cheap and fast monitors that are horrible for your eyes.... they probably have good reason to believe gamers are blind and deaf :p:

Don't get me wrong, I know what you are getting at here but there is still no reason the case should look as gaudy as it does, regardless of the line it is placed under. It probably is a well built case but the colors chosen and finishing used just make it seem cheap. There is no reason they couldn't have a case with similar if not the same utility AND have it appeal to the eye. Hell, a black frame and darker gray plastic would have done spades, at least it would look passable.

Looks wise it looks like they took a HAF 932 and beat it really hard with they ugly stick after CM shrank it in the wash. But I intend to stock them and I know they'll sell quite well amongst the gaming fraternity. I'll be hitting Antec up for a sample fairly soon.

If there's room for a 240mm rad at the top of the case once the motherboard if fitted (even if the fans are on the outside) its a winner. I might be wrong but it looks like a 360 might fit up one or both of the front sides. If so that's more than a HAF can take without hanging radiators on the side panel.

Your opinion does not make something functional or non functional. Would you mind getting me the ACTUAL definition that I missing(lol?)? "non functional" doesn't seem to have a definition that's written on dictionary.com or in any dictionaries that I don't have =/ I highly doubt you've tested this case to deem it "non functional" by any standards, requirements or constraints that you made up in your own head. I think the case is an abomination as well but I'm fairly certain that it functions in some way, shape or form(maybe even as intended). My opinion is also irrelevant just like your opinion. By the way, the Antec 300 is complete trash, I think the 900 and 1200 are flimsy pieces of garbage anyways. It didn't help that I saw poorly constructed and abused display models for one but when I put an Antec 900 together I wasn't impressed with it.

Interesting concept to say the least. You could place radiators literally everywhere in this case, like a 360 or even 480 in the HDD/ODD compartment and completely separate the airflow from the rest of the components. Looks vicious in an unflattering way though.

Say, anyone know what happened to the P1000 concept they were showing at CES in january? I think that would have had serious potential with minor touch up (visual tweaks mainly, like blending the side intakes into the panels better and so on).

After some of the PC's I have set up for family members and friends and recommending Antec cases P180 mini's, P183's and the twelve hundred series for their builds, I'm not sure that would be one on the list for future builds. That thing is rough looking. As far as 10 year olds are concerned, mine did do better with hers. At least she didn't use curb paint for trim accents. :ROTF:

I think Coolermaster has been turning out some excellent designs lately. The storm brand is really good, I got a storm sniper and love it. There at least working with enthusiasts to give them what they want, instead of how antec is just recycling designs. After using the sniper, I can tell you it has to be one of the most thought out cases I have ever used.

200 euros is way, way to much. I wouldn't pay more than £60 for that.

Its an interesting concept and it looks like you could mount a two triple rads in the front drive bays (one either side,) but it just looks like a toy and there is no way its worth that much.

Its nice to see antec trying different things like this and with the skeleton, but they are putting their prices too high and leaving themselves with very few lines of cases that can't be described as 'novel.'
