now all we need is a 6 way 'display port to DVI' loom to be made, nice neet single sheath loom, that does away the need for 6 cables at the back.

So looking at GPU-Z it get's the same DeviceID as a standard HD5870. meaning 5800 series and not HD5950

I wonder if we have any hope of seeing none reference 5870s with 2GB and not just this eyefinity version... This is even more of a niche product than the dual gpu cards if you ask me. I'd honestly like to see a entry level card with this as I see 6 displays being used more for work flow than gaming and until CF works properly with eyefinity, it is kind of pointless ( I wouldn't want to run more than 3 1680x1050 displays with a single 5870 - let alone 4+ at a higher resolution )

And then 3 of these babies in parallel, then you are able to make some HUGE resolutions!!!

But hey, then there is a possibilty for a dedicated screen for every single program you are running!
Then it just needs to be posible to "stack" the desktop on them, not only extend it horisontaly.

I like the full exhaust slot personally. Pity the original 5870 one lacks it.
WTB a backplate, though.

Twelve the magic number.

The relevance of 2GB vram should really only make a difference at multi display resolution. Only highly texture pack modded games need an excess of 1GB vram even at 2560x1600 (unless we are talking high levels of super sampling which isn't playable anyways... )and this is a trend I don't see future games changing given development is largely at the mercy of consoles and the game engines console games use.

That's a very good question.

I'm willing to bet suppliers send out 2 Displayport > DVI adaptors max.

If you want another 4 you're going to have to be willing to pay the... maybe $6/10 each for one?

single link or duel link DVI? big difference

the only price ive seen for converters is right around 20$, so it will add up quickly when you think that every monitor you buy without DP, is going to cost 20$ more.

tip, get us more DP no bezel monitors ASAP!!!

My guess is availability by the end of the month ( sparsely however ) and a MSRP of $449. Again it is a niche product as 2 5870s should be adequate for 3 24" LCDs. Anyone wanting to use more than 3 LCDs for the purpose of gaming is probably going to have no hang ups ( let alone funds) buying 2 or 3 of these so ATI has no reason to give them away.

total nonsense!

you dont need 2560x1600 in order to need 2gb

i guess you havent played supcom @ 1gb/2gb

~1.7gb used @ 2gb gtx285 @ 1920x1080 no AA just high quality settings

Don't you mean 2007? Remember the GX2? 4870x2 still has microstuttering too. Just because you don't notice it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, there could be a variety of reasons. Resolution size, game and acceptable level of playability. So far no one has achieved multigpu to perform like 1 gpu. So yes it does exist.

5870-6 won't give ya better temps btw. It just dumps a bit more hot air into the case. The total exhaust size is about the same.

huh funny i've had a 4870x2 with vista x64 and a few monitors/resolutions and never once noticed micro stuttering and i've played too many games to count :\

then you say it's there but unnoticable.. pls stay on topic

Dumping air in case.
Used a single slot exhaust blower next to my old 8800gts that had those vents on the side. Crossfire may be a problem.

@ zalbard, 5870 six is exhausting all air outside of case

Seal the side vents and the air will have no where else to go.

assuming the 5870-6 is on top in both pics it is actually dumping less heat into the case by blocking some of the side vents. Now i just need a monitor with a display port.

Yes there are always exceptions but I look at the market "ON THE WHOLE" not just 1 or 2 titles. That aside Sup Comp runs and looks fine to me on 1GB cards (I play it at 1920x1200 with 8x MSAA ) so I have no idea what you are going on about.

Same here, worked fine with my old 8800 Ultra 768MB @ 1920x1200 4x MSAA on maxed settings. No denial that the game is very CPU hungry, though.

Show some benches otherwise it's just puff, what do you mean looks horrible on 1gb, fps wise?

No stuttering for me with 512mb vram @ 2560x1600 4xaa, compared to Grid which actaully gives you horrible performance using 4xaa and only 512mb vram.

Micro stuttering = myth?

I don't just sit here and inflate my post count like most.

But this one deserved a post -

micro stuttering is REAL in both SLI and Crossfire. I have owned more PCs, and probably own more PCs right now than most people on this board are years old - including multiple SLI and crossfire setups going back from current to years ago.

It does exist, they have improved the problem, and some are more sensitive to it than others.

For instance even though I can no longer clearly see it like I used to be able to - SLI or Crossfire still gives me a headache due 100% to microstuttering after hours of play that never occurs when utilizing a single GPU.

Even with current technology the most powerful single GPU > any combination of GPUs due to micro stuttering even if you are one of the lucky people who's brain is not capable of perceiving the effect.

In other words just because you are deaf does not mean others cannot hear - or that micro stuttering has not been verified through objective computer testing proving it DOES exist.

Some argue that "oh well even if your computer test proves its happening that is faster than the human eye can notice because of this crappy study blah blah...."

Well there are people who notice it.

I also notice the rainbows on DLP based projectors and again this is something that is confirmed to exist but not everyone is able to perceive it. Just because you do not see the rainbowing when watching single chip DLP display technology utilizing a color wheel does not mean that other people do not in fact see it. Computers have also been used to verify that it is real.

Give me the top single GPU ANY SINGLE DAY over ANY multi-GPU solution.

There are plenty of other reasons:

driver support

worse performance than a single GPU in many titles

bugs general quality control issues

not working in many games or providing no performance increase

the list goes on and on.

I bench with multi-GPUs.

I 24/7 with a single GPU.

When I build my new machine in Q1 2010 that will be the greatest monster ever -

Two 8-core Intel Xeons (thank you Gulftown I'm going server side this time) for 16 actual cores and 32 virtual ones.

I may implement multi GPUs for benching - but my 24-7 use will be the most powerful single GPU that is available at any price in Jan-Mar 2010.

Wow I cannot believe you guys got me to post on XS. This is an issue that insensitive blowhards try to force on everyone else, fanboys scream doesn't exist so they can say their favorite company c o c k is the longest, or people make any other excuse about. Fact is micro stuttering has been measured - it does bother some people still, and the record needed to be set straight.

well, we are xtreme, not just in hardware but the size of our not just long but also thick c-o-c-k-s

single videocard is always best, some are sensitive to crossfire/sli as the sync, even at milliseconds, the brain is able to register such, some just notice it more.

Some people also register the frequency of electricity and get allergy to that.
Now, living their whole a life without a computer, dang, I do need to get a life ;)

I've used multi gpu and single gpu. There is a slight noticeable difference, but IMO it is not a deal breaker. In the case of 295 vs. 5870, I'd take the 5870. If I could choose between a 4870 & CF 4850's I'd take the CF. If it was GTX285 vs. GTX260SLI, I'd go with the 260 SLI.
