I'll get one more 260-216 online in a few. It needs a driver update. It's my main rig, so the garbage I've been seeing on the farm with the newer drivers better play nice here..... No KVM so I should be OK.

Funny, OldChap, I was gonna make a crack about Canadian Thanksgiving already being passed but didn't have time.
Thanksgiving in the states is Thursday the 26th of November this year.

And I hope to get a GTX of some sort online soon ! Just looking for a hot enough deal...

My main rig 260-216 is online and crunching.

I've been struggling with my 295 ... I think my Corsair 750 TX may be a little underpowered for the 295 full bore plus a healthy OC (4.3 GHz @ 1.325 vCore) on my i7-920. That's really a guess but I can say that it seems like the more I push the more *problems* I seem to have. I unplugged the extra fan I was using for a bit of extra cooloing on the GPU and, gulp, dare I say this, I am undervolting (938 mV using EVGA Tuner) and underclocking (all the way down using EVGA Precision) to see if I can stay stable and crunching without crashing. Any chance drivers could be the issue ... 191.07 on Vista 64 using boinc manager 6.10.17?

Hey Bob, I never had any issues with my kvm's...I have (2) 4ch and (1) 2ch. I have noted the usb ones aren't as reliable as the old fashion ones tho.

All I want for Xmas is more GPUS :D

So we only need 85k ppd more each day. I will take my 3 cards off of F@H till thanksgiving. They need 300k ppd more I think for their comp. Its a lot harder to get 300k more there than it is to get 85k here or am I reading your message wrong? I am not even sure where you guys are seeing the stats. I know how to find our individual stats...let me look into this. I can prvide 3 more 275's and possibly see if I can get a 260 or 2 to help out.

I have got to sell the 192 core. It is just sitting. Since it acts like the other one I have decided it is the 65nm older 260s that have the problem. Seems most 55nm do ok. Waiting on a HD then installing Vista64 on the Athlon and trying it once more, different MB and all and try some under clocking and the newest beta drivers but I have no confidence it will work. It does ok on F@H except for 576x WUs and that was all they would send. Seemed to play games ok and Nvidia supposedly tests them I would just hate to sell it to someone and they had problems playing games. I may box it up and hide it in the dark corner of the PC parts closet and pretend it never happened. I have 289 reviews on ebay feedback and 100% positive and this card will screw that up, it hates me and wants to destroy me!

Otis11
11-07-2009, 01:10 PM
Can't you use it for your games and let the others be dedicated crunchers? That would help more than putting it in a dark corner...

Or if you want to put it on ebay (which i recommend), test it with the games you have, sell it and just make sure the guy knows that it won't run DC apps correctly, most won't care a bit. (You could also offer to have him send it back if he has trouble... then there's no way he can rate you poorly and it's better than the dark corner)

thanks fellas,
so I was right in my calculations. 2x gts 250's= 1 gtx 275

My rac for 2 gtx 275's is currently showing 39k, I can produce anywhere from 16+ to 23?k ppd
Does anyone have a rac for a single gtx 260-216?

also what about a gtx 285?

My thoughts still stand I think. Giving that you could buy a 275 for $200 or less, would provide the best card for the money IMO. Although the 260's are not too terribly far behind, but still enough for me to justify the difference. My calculations are fairly acurrate on this as well. At one point in time, I said onF@H the 275 produces around 1500k ppd more and on the grid approx 3k ppd more. Looks to be on par from what I have compared to PG

Looks like I will stay with the 275's for now, unless I cannot find any deals and I find a killer deal on a 260-216

Does anyone have spare cards sitting idle that need me to run for them. i know some cannot afford the electric bill right now? just thought Id put that out there.

That's at stock?!?! I think there's something wrong with that... on a mild OC I was pushing 18k... but at the "stock" superclock speeds it was stable around 16k if I remember right... Just need to get a monitor so I can fix this thing up...

Just checked the history and I thought it was longer ago that I pulled one of the cards out of that machine. The 28 day RAC still has alot of numbers from when both cards were in it. The 7 day RAC is 17k and that seems about right. When both cards were in the machine it ran 35k-38k a day.

Their website said I could pick it up in store on Friday but then they backed out of that via email and said to call them and they would ship for free. I call and lucky me, I get a trainee customer service rep who doesn't know anything and can't find anything even though I gave him the order number. After putting me on hold three separate times he says they will ship it to me at no charge and it will go out that day. I get home and check the order status only to find that it still has not shipped and they did not fix the sales tax (no sales tax if I order for a direct shipment on web site). I call again and explain ... while I am hold for the second time for this call they f'in hang up on me. I check the website to see if the rep finished fixing the tax for me and it tells me that their "order management system is down, sorry for the inconvenience". I just checked now and it still has not been shipped and of course there is still no credit for the sales tax. Best Buy sucks ascii. I was kinda hesitant to go with them to begin with but this fiasco seals the deal, I will never go there again. There are too many good retailers, no need to deal with this incompetence.

Thats not good, I had a few hours downtime today myself :shakes:. I updated the bios on my p55 rig. Forgot to put the voltage back up; went to my parents for my Mom's 60th B-day. I got home to find out that the P55 crashed. I then went to update to the 195.xx driver myself; it works on all my x58 machines, but does not allow SLI on my P55   :shakes:
So I went back to 191.07 drivers I think they are

Updated all my machines to boinc 6.10.18:up:
For some reason I am not getting the production I planned, but I am still doing well.

I am thinking of making some changes again too, just not sure what the heck I am doing or want to do right now. I know I need to figure out how to proerly power all my systems. I have My P55 running on a 500 enhance psu, but the 2 gtx 275's are running on my Galaxy evo 1250 which also runs my main rig with another 2 gtx 275's.

I may be pulling 1 machine to run big wu's for F@H and possibly exploring linux and will pair with either my 9800gt from an old amd system , cheap gpu by itself, or possibly another GTX275. I have not decided yet. Way too many ideas in my head :ROTF:

I went back to 190.XXwhatever since I found out my rig has been throwing errors ever since going to 195.xxwhatever. That driver seems to su*k real bad for 260 cards. It was throwing "snow-storms" on the screen, and giving me the error "graphics driver has reset" and such.

So far, so good on the older driver. I have a couple of valids.

Since Nvidia has decided to ignore my repeated problem reports on the issue I have with KVM functionality, I'm really looking at the 5870 thread with interest. For $300 a card, that will be my next move if they prove solid on real work.

On the PSUs, I learned early on to go big and good with those. I have mostly 750 watt units, a mix of Silverstone 750s, which DDTung turned me onto, some Corsairs, and the rest Thermaltakes. They have all been rock solid. The lowest rated supplies I have are some 500 watt Thermaltakes. They are all supporting at least one quad and one 260-216. So far so good, but I can see that they might have not been the best choice for upgrading.

I'm still a noob on farm management, and I don't think any of us can call themselves experts. DDTung was the closest we had to that. I do miss him. :(

My best,
Bob

If trying 2 or 3 different drivers does not help forget it. It was an older 65nm model that I could never get to work RMA'd it and the replacement would not work either. My 2 newer 55nm work fine.

Thx very much for the heads up Poppa.

I had thought originally that all the 260-216s were 55nm. I found a tiny snippet that has my part number as 65nm.... The card is part number 896-P3-1267-FR. The FR indicates that it came from Fry's so I substituted AR and found a little blurb saying it was 65nm. I know my card is a very early 260-216 so I suppose it is true.

No wonder it's been driving me crazy! Now I can quit trying to make it work. I was worried that the card had a hardware problem.

Sparky is looking for another 260-216 to fill out a dual card folder. I had intended to give it to him for folding. I suppose I should take it back to 182.50 driver and ensure it folds. If it does, it's his.

I will possibly be losing my P55 to my brother or possibly Otis. I am feeling a tiny bit nice and they are both in need of a good system. I am not sure what I am actually going to do yet, but plan for a new 920 system to replace the p55 or just add to the farm.

another good note is, I just bought a gtx 260 from a fellow member and sold my UD2 on another forum.

Now I can really compare the GTX 260 to my 275's, no more BS, hands down comparison between cards on very similar hardware:up:

Should have my card before Snow Crash gets his 285  just playing, but I should have it by the weekend. contemplating buying an msi 260 from a member on another forum as well

maybe a trip to MC this weekend  :p: ;)

Hey guys don't :slapass: me, I had 2 machines crash today possibly due to the new beta drivers . Kind of funny how I can run for over a month non-stop without issues, then I upgrade and system crashes  :shakes:

Gotta build a crunching basis some how... (we'll see how it works out)

Lookin forward to seeing how the cards compare! Need to start looking into ATI once they finally get that working, but we won't put it all on you. :p:

Well thats good news

@Otis: I used to run ATI, but less than half production compared to nvidia killed it for me. If they get it figured out, ati may start kicking some butt. I hoe they get it figured out cause I am sure there are a lot of ati fans that had no choice but to go with nvidia

If we even think we are short for this goal, I'll turn over the 55nm 260-216s I have folding, over to the grid.

LMK. Those will be a PITA since I will have to go through driver gymnastics on the KVM I have, but I'll do it. I have 6 of these cards.....

The one 65nm 260-216 card I have got fired tonight. It's going on a long boat trip to Ohio. It will fold there.

Kudos to all who have stepped up, keep it up, and just joined us coming out of the depths of the DC vault to make it happen.

Ultimate kudos to Naja, who started this team, brought me onboard, and got us going.....:worship:

Put a GTX260 back on the grid for this, and I think I'll keep it here this time. It runs much hotter and squeals sometimes with F@H. I can run the fan at stock with gpugrid, a lot easier on my ears. :)

Had a very long day yesterday so it was not until this morning that I got the 285 crunching. For the moment it is below stock as I had read there was a screw up at the factory that flashed these at core speeds that would cause them to crash. Sure enough when I finally got it going and opened Precision, the core was running at 694. I was in a rush (had to leave for work) so I just turned all settings to lowest to make sure there would be no crash during the day. I will try to tweak it a little tonight and do my long term OC after TDay but for now it will make sure I pie every day :-)

Welcome back 4x4

<update>
I now have the shaders set to a more respectable 1584 :-)
and it looks like we may take Germany by the last update Sunday night ... 4 days ahead of schedule ... XS FTW!

got my GTX 260-216 today!!! have to make some changes though. I also need to figure out what the max I can go on shaders for Gpugrid or F@H. I might have to go over f@h to look through some posts

EDIT: I an not sure what the max shader clock that can be runon these, but I am sure soon to find out. I was @ 1699 or whatever the actual was, probably over 1700 but I got a driver stopped and restarted. I backed it off to 1687(1692 actual) so far its been good, will see by tomorrow how it does. Tonight I have to change a couple of systems around, so I will have a couple hours downtime, actually a few on 1 GTX 275, wish I had my dremmel here, could make a quick fix, but I think my plan will work for a while.

I basically have a Lian-li A05B for my son with a Gigabyte X58 UD4P trying to run 3 GTX 275's. The way the case is built will not allow for the 3rd card to seat correctly. Its probably not a good idea to run 3 GTX 275's in this case without major mods anyway. I had the case all enclosed and it got way too hot. had to pull the side panel off to properly cool everything. The GTX 260 seems to run quite a bit cooler than the GTX 275's. So maybe for now I will run 1 GTX 260 in this case and possibly add a couple more later, will see in time. I got a pretty good deal on this card so I am happy so far. Will see how it compares to my 275's for final answer. END EDIT

 and I had a really bad day. I am having issues with either drivers, boinc, or a combination of both:shrug: drivers fail and restart, locks the systems to 2d speeds thereafter, reads full speed but runs at 2d clocks

I also think that one of my systems psu is dying:shrug:. been running fine, only thing thats changed is boinc and driver. Starting today My issue is that the system will just shut off and will not turn back on and the led's on the mobo do not light up. I can turn the psu off and on again and its fine for a bit.
I am currently trying to troubleshoot, not sure where to start, but I am thinking psu.

Eliminate the drivers as being issue. I am certain 191.07 play nice with: GX2, GTX 260, GTX 275, 8800GT, GTS 250, 9800GXT, and 9800GSO. Hope you get it sorted out.

You and me both:shrug: I have some on 191.07 and some on the latest and i think 1 on the one before 191.07. I think I may try to revert back to an earlier version of boinc. Just can't recall what I was running before 6.10.18/19. I think it was 6.10.13/14
Weird thing is some are fine, some are not, I just don't get it

Yeah, it was in the pie that I asked him what was up - His reply

My "big hitter", dual Xeon, 4x GTX295 rig is down. Had to reboot after it hung one night during the week. 24 hours later it switched itself off and refuses to boot again, no beeps from the mb, etc. etc. Not had time to do any more investigating yet.

Hope it's back up soon!

If it's any consolation, I also got a motherboard, 4 gigs of ram and a phenom 9850 in the deal with the 2 8800gt's. But yesterday, my ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe takes a crap taking a phenom 9950 off of WCG. I was going to use that to help catch you in WCG haha. Oh well, I guess for now I am just going to have to be ok keeping pace with you in GPUgrid.

Anyone want to donate a spare am2+ motherboard haha?
