Hi All,
After a dual boot linux experiment I'm trying to forget I used a Drive image I had made to cd-r and copied over to new WD 80gb 8 mg drive jumper set to cable select. I don't think I made it active so I get no boot from it. Can I copy system files from a win xp boot disk to drive to make bootable? If so How? I do have Partition magic 8.0 but have not figured out if I can make it active.

It's not a system file problem. You need to change the bootloader (if you're dual booting linux) or the boot.ini in your primary os to include the other partition (if your using ms).
