I can`t understand the following: if 16:9, you choose 1920x1080. if 16:10 - 1920x1200 then. `m I correct?
I`d like to get 24` LCD with futuristic design.
And yes, TN matrix for sure, having not much money :)

I think yes, 16:10 can handle 1920x1200 and 1920x1080. Choose the one you like from Acer, Samsung or LG :P

Well I got a Samsung T260N and the resolution is 1920x1200 (16:10). I looks great, and is perfect (for me) to see HD movies.... But the bad thing about TN panel is the viewing angle.

PS: A cuestion that nobody can anwser me before :( Why when I see a HD Movie with format .mkv the resolution is 1920x800 instead 1920x1080???? 1920x800 is not a FULL HD movie, no?

thanks :D

A few options here for you. Not many decent 19x12 TN displays around sadly.

Depends on:
1. Movie resolution
2. Player settings

I suggest you use KMPlayer and choose 16:10 there in options.

Dezmen if the resolution movie is 1920x800 is not a full HD movie??? But if I change my player ( I use the K-lite codec pack with the Windows media player clasic) I can see the movie in the real resolution?? (1920x1080) ???

WaterFlex I think the better LCD for you is the Samsung T240 with DVI :up: is a kick ass LCD display

The difference is HDMI in.
And W2486L is 1920x1080. I was picking x1200 monitor myself, if you are fine with x1080, then it's a whole different story.

Dezmen
10-27-2009, 11:43 AM
x1200 looks way better and have more "bigger" picture. + i hate very wide format lcds, looks ugly :S But in gaming i think 16:9 better, for movies 16:10

zalbard
10-27-2009, 11:45 AM
For gaming x1200 is better since games can actually benefit from the additional space, for movies x1080 is better since most movies are either 16:9 or 2.35:1.
And I really suggest reading reviews and doing some research rather than going by looks and marketing parameters.

Dezmen
10-27-2009, 11:47 AM
For me x1080 better for gaming, i compared in Call of Duty 4, picture looks so realistic. Acer P243 have option to show 16:9 picture 1:1.. But still need buy x1200 for all life moments :P

Hmmm... Full HD is 1920x1080. Why does "16:10" is needed for 1920x1080 (16:9 is enough? hm?)

Dezmen
10-27-2009, 11:51 AM
1920x1080 -> 16:9
1920x1200 -> 16:10 i think its cause its higher(x1200 > x1080 xD)

Let me clarify something for you, you seem confused.
1080/9 * 16 = 1920
1200/10 * 16 = 1920

That`s new for me, thanks. But I can`t get clear the following: FULLHD film fits the whole 16:9 display. And if this film launched on 16:10 panel there will be black stripes. Is it correct?

Dezmen

Yes... But all manage video player. KMplayer can fit picture to 16:10

Yeah, small black stripes at the top and at the bottom.
You can stretch the image using your Media Player functions to fill the whole screen, but you would lose the image quality. I am fine with stripes so I don't bother.
Just set your priorities I guess.
16:9 is definitely better for movies.
16:10 is a bit better for games than 16:9 imo, especially if you play MMOs or strategy games, then the difference is very noticeable.
And 16:10 is definitely better for everyday work, such as Office, Photoshop, etc.

So if I get that player I can see the video on FULL HD 1920x1080 and I will change the ratio from the movie?

For example I got Transformers on HD and I looks great, but with the Media Player Clasic I see the two black lines in the top and bottom on the screen.

Dezmen donīt start to speak in Ukraine because I puedo empezar a hablar yo en castellano y no vamos a entender nada. :p::p:jejejeje

(Can you imagine if we all start to speak in a native language....jejejeje Nobody will understand anything)

Dezmen

Well there is many players that can do that. But i recommend The KMPlayer, my favorite player for 3 years

Start KMPlayer, open your file, and check file properties. It will tell you the resolution of the image of your file. If it's 1920x800, then keep it as is. You can stretch the video to 1920x1080, but everything will look very thin (or very tall, you get my point).

Yeah, x1200 TN monitors are a dying breed. :( Most TN monitors are x1080 these days, if you want something bigger, you have to go for MVA or IPS in most cases.

WOW people...

Movies are not filmed in HD. They can be resized for HD, but are not filmed in the 16:9 format. As stated earlier in the thread, they are mostly filmed in 2.35:1. (which is like 16:8.5) that is why you get the black bars on top and bottom when watching a movie in 16:9 format. 16:10 is nothing, its just a random resolution that works well for gaming and desktop work. If you watch an HD movie on a 16:10 monitor than your black bars will be bigger on top and bottom, but the movie will be the same width.

(which is like 16:8.5)...Uh, more like, Wow, are your math skills WAY off. An aspect ratio of 2.35-2.4:1 or "Letterbox" as it's commonly called is actually 21:9. The only display I know of that fits it perfectly is the Phillips Cinema 21:9 HDTV.

http://www.cinema.philips.com/?ls=gb_en

While it would be nice for more TVs and monitors to support a 21:9 aspect ratio, it would no doubt involve a difficult transition period. There are problems even with displaying a 21:9 source image on a 21:9 screen, due to how films are made to adapt to 16:9 TVs.

The following is an excerpt from Trusted Review's article on the Philips Cinema 21:9

"The problem is that when 2.35:1 films are broadcast or encoded onto Blu-ray, the black bars necessary to make the source work with a 16:9 TV are built into the actual source picture. In other words, the black bars aren't created by your TV, but rather added, line by line, to the source, as if they were parts of the main image.

In order to make today's 2.35:1 films fill its screen, therefore, the Cinema 21:9 has to remove these bars from sources, using sophisticated processing to 'blow them up' so that they're pushed off the top and bottom of the screen, while the rest of the image appears both intact and with its natural proportions."
