Vapor has been undertaking some exceptional work here already:

I'm sure this will help with decision making process. I think fan 3 results really need to be "confirmed" from an external source.

I have an S Flex, it has decent noise:airflow but it lacks the xtreme touch. If you've got a fan controller or are willing to build a simple one check out http://www.nidec.com/fans.html# Try the 120mmx38mm fans if you have the space for them. I'm still using/have give away a bunch of their 92mm fans that I pulled off of some Pentium 2 systems about 6 years ago and they as strong as ever even after running 24/7 for at least 10 years.

Out of those, the S-Flex are the ones I'd go with. I've run a few of them in the past, and the dB:CFM ratio does seem pretty good. Might also look into the low speed Yate Loons, possibly even undervolted. Cheap price, good fans.

Most fans will make roughly the same noise at the same RPM. The new Slipstreams have very good airflow, meaning (when using a fan controller) they will give the same CFM as other fans at lower RPM.
This has been tested in some reviews and it works. I currently have S-Flex's but if I had to buy new ones, I'd go for the Slipstream (personally I'd go for the 1200 RPM, more than enough CFM).

I was looking into those kamaflex also.

I think Martin210 has some sound clips testing how much air they pushed out. The kamaflex werent that loud at all, compared to the S-flex.

I've seen some places carry the kamaflex for $9.99..

Slipstreams are NOT quiet @ 1900rpm - if you feed them direct power i've found they sping around 2200-2300rpm.

If you want low noise they are not what you want. Not saying they are 'loud', but not quiet/silent. I have a fan controller so i turn them from 2200rpm down to arond 1400rpm and then i cannot hear them at all.

enermax magma.

Yeah i was also looking at those magma's but here on XS there isnt much to find about it.
How do they compete with the S-Flex 1600 RPM and the Gentle Typhoon 1450 RPM?
I personally find my 3 S-Flex F fans too loud.

I am interested in this too as I am looking to replace the "Stock" Lian-Li case fans (120mm) with either SCYTHE S-FLEX fans or whatever else you would recommend.
I already have a 6 channel fan controller :) Which my Lian-Li fans (6 120mm) are hooked up to.

Gentle typhoon or S-Flex gets my vote.

Either get the 1850 rpm variant and put a fan controller on it or try and find the slower variants http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=35020&vpn=D1225C12B5AP%2D15&manufacture=Scythe

I'd say Scythe S-Flex has a good price and grat db:cfm ratio. Buy a fancontroller and undervolt it, they blow enough air to make a difference with great silence!

Thanks for the suggestions Bun-Bun and Smartidiot89
I already have a 6 channel fan controller (ZM-MFC1 Plus), so I guess it's the case of getting the Scythes' plugging them and and then dialing in to the sweetspot (fastest speed with no noise).
The Lian-Li A70B case fans are ok, but even at 7Vish they can be rather vocal. (I don't think they shift that much air either at this speed either).
Right so 1850rpm Gentle Typhoon or what variant S-Flex would you guys suggest?
What about these noiseblocker multiframe fans, (http://www.noiseblocker.de/de/produkt_luefter_multiframe-mf12_s3.php) have you heard much about those? (they are rather expensive, but have got some good reviews).
Best Wishes for the Festive Season

If you can find the enermax magma, I would go with it, they out sell the Gentle Typhoon & variant S-Flex here in Japan.

Are these (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/120mm-Enermax-UCMA12-Magma-TWISTER-Fan-%28MBT%29-Batwing-Blades-15k-RPM-inc-Rubber-A-V-Plugs) the same Enermax Magma fans? (for some reason they are called twister here).
They are a bit cheaper than the Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850 rpm fans. and half the price as the S-Flex fans.
I have not found many reviews of the Magma :(
Some say that they are very good, yet loud at 7V+ others say they are silent and push a lot of Air.
Do you have any Magma's?
Thanks, I will order either later today or sometime tomorrow

Go with the Slip Stream if you have a fan controller. At lower voltage they move a LOT of air, and very minimal noise. Otherwise one of the mid-range S-Flex fans like the 1600RPM ones. Not silent, but also very little bearing noise from them, just the sound of air moving :)

Ok guys I am in a bit of a pickle here.
The Enermax has had mixed reviews, some places love it, others give the Magma 6/10
Gentle Typhoons are loved pretty much by most enthusiasts around the net.
The slipstreams are good fans, but sleeved. Has anyone here got any experience with SlipStreams?
As for pricing the Enermax here is ~£8, the Gentle Typhoon ~£10 and the Slipstream ~£9
(S-Flex's being £14 so sort of pricing themselves out of the competition)

Order has been placed for 6 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon's.
I was close to getting the Enermax Magma... just XBit's fan round up and a few people on silent PC forums suggested the Gentle Typhoons + Fan Controller would be a better buy.
They should get here on Wednesday ;)
Fingers crossed they are quieter than the Stock Lian-Li fans and as a bonus push more air

Yeah I noticed that too, it does look a very useful feature, just I guess Google and a few middle of the road reviews for the Enermax swayed me towards the Gentle Typhoons which seem to be well received all over the web.

Sleeve bearing tho...

Tis true, their only fault imo. I've yet to have one fail on me, though I haven't had them very long. However, they are $7-$10, so if one fails I don't mind replacing it. I'd really love it if Zalman released a fluid dynamic bearing version of the ZM-F3.

If you are looking for quiet fans, sleeve bearing is the way to go really. Fans with ball bearings have more longevity but also make more noise at lower RPM, when compared to sleeved fans. All my fans are sleeved and they are still functional and quiet.

Personally I find no fan from 1000 RPM and up is quiet. You will definitely be able to tell if a PC is on if there are 1000+ RPM fans in it.

Interesting! I've actually found this to be true too. I have a couple San Ace H101 ball bearing fans and they're definitely more noticeable than the ZM-F3.

When there new yes they are quieter. And if you can keep them clean of dust they will stay that way but in a dusty enviroment after a year or two they start to growl a bit from dust getting into the bearing. Which yes at the cost of some of them its ok but id rather not replace fans... I take apart my computer enough as it is...

But I am very impressed with the Yate Loon 120x20mm fans...

I have 3 S-Flex and 4 Gentle Typhoons. I got the 4th GT - 800RPM - as the intake fan on the project I am working on (with a busted rib, work has ground to a halt except for fan testing). I am ambivalent about the S-Flexes. I'm waiting to test them on my MegaH, but I'm not happy with them as case fans.

The Noctuas are the Cadillac option. The P12 was designed for coolers, the S12B as a case fan. Both work well as case fans.

If you have a place that has 120mm fan holes but there is room for a 140mm fan, try either the Noctua P14 or a Scythe Kaze Maru. I love all four of these fans. The Scythes will point everywhere but up, so you can't use them for top exhaust. The P14 works great in any orientation.

Look around. You can get slot type fan controllers as part of combo deals. There are some Zalman stand-alone controllers, but think about where you might put them. Noctua fans come with resistor wires.

Magma pushes a fair amount of air with mostly blade and air noise. I like the fan.

Slip Streams are case fans only. Sleeve bearings mean they are picky about orientation.

The Noctua fans have fairly low airflow, but are quiet. My 1900RPM Kaze Maru is great on airflow; noise mostly airflow. The 1200RPM not as powerful, otherwise very similar to 1900. But YMMV: I've seen enough variability in Scythe reviews to believe their QC is not all that consistent.

For quiet 120mm fans with good airflow, GT 1450 and 1850 are best, IMO. I think I will use my GT 1150 as the pull fan in a push-pull setup where my intake GT 800 pushes air into the HD cage, and the GT 1150 pulls it out. My case is not set up for mid-case fans . . . yet. I have to wait for the rib to heal.

As a lark, look at these Deltas (http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=17345+FN). For $4.95US apiece, I bought two. Heck, I have fan controllers, and they might be great on my Mega. Specs here (http://store.cwc-group.com/wfb1212h.html).

I have 3 UK's. They are loud for case fans, but the guys who have tested them on radiators get results that suggest they might make good heatsink fans. Won't know more until I can test.

Edit: I missed the entire second page of this thread. Great choice on the GT's.
