Hey guys, i hope you can help me out.
I have some trouble getting my overclocking stable for applications with even the lowerst CPU load.
I use LN2 as cooling, and i have no troubles hitting 6,5Ghz (CPUz), but i have trouble even getting it to run 3dmark or wprime at 5,5Ghz.
I have tried tons of difference settings (both possible and impossible settings). (thats the reason why i didnt include BIOS settings)
Some times it even crashes in the "3D" part of 3dmark so i have no idear whats wrong with my overclock.
My hardware:
AMD Phenom II 42 TWKR
Asus M4A79T-Deluxe
Patriot ram (cant remember the model, but i doesnt think i matters).
GFX: CF 5870/ 4870x2
PSU: 850w Thermaltake
Cooling: Venom pot
What can cause that kind of instability?

you may be pushing the memory to hard.

Tried running them at half the rated speed and with cas11 to take them out of the equation. Still the same

What kinda Nb settings you running, could be the issue.

Tried nearly everything from 1800 mhz - 4000mhz

have you tried other pcie slots seem more like video card problem the then chip ?

As fair as i remember i did try some difference slots but im not sure... think ill give that a shot then i gets my hands on some more LN2 just to be sure...
Any others idears? (everything is welcome;-) )

There maybe only one reason for instability:
PSU: 850w Thermaltake
It is not enough for AMD LN2 and CF 5870 3D benching.

Take a close look at your hardware. If you have different ram change and try that. generic ram dosent oc well. ocz got what you need.
but honestly i don't think that is going to change a thing.
I have a dual core at 3.25/1250/250 and my ram runs just under a 1000 mhz. 462 x2 who cares. i could go faster but I need to change over from air to water. 4 hd drives 2 dvd cd roms. 1 pcie soundblaster xfi 1 pcie hd4890 and 1 startech pci to ide. That all runs on my 1000watt power supply. when I first bought this computer " long time ago" i ran on the intergrated graphics. then i got the cash for a 9600gt forever ago. this was when i had a 600w ps.
I couldnt even boot. so upset i went on asus and within 15mins i found my answer. They can calculate the wattage needed for your current setup. I needed 750watts but i went with the 1000w for the room. like my 4890.
try pulling out some cards and booting that way. if it boots clean its your power supply. i would bet money on it. got a friend with a quad core hes got 1600watts.

Ill try with a 680w dedicated for the CPU next time..
