can this handle an overclocked core i7 920? I have a dual rad aquacomputers rad to back it and a D5.

I was going to get a HK but thinking it might do the jobby?

Sure it can handle it.

If you have the gt, use it, but if you have to buy it, check the enzotech shappire.
Really cheap and performs a lot better than the gt ;)

sweet, i just kept seeing these reviews of the newer blocks that are more suited i suppose to i7 and presumed that it wouldn't handle it well. that saves me a fair amount of time and hassle,

just out of curiosity how much are we talking here in terms of performance tempwise between a HK and apogee gt?

Depends on your overclock. At extreme overclocks maybe 10 - 12c. At a normal overclock (say 4ghz 1.25v?) possibly 6-7c? At stock i'd be surprised if you say more than 4c difference.

I used an MCW462 for 2 days - ran the i7 c0 @ 3.9ghz 1.3v and hit 91c in linx. Your GT is immensely better than that block.

yeah we're talking normal overclock here, i'm not looking to break records so aiming at 4ghz. hmmmm now what to spend the money i saved on....... :toast2:

I have 2 920's at 4GHz sporting Apogee GT's and they work fine. Temps still get up to 70C on hot days but it's definitely better than running on air.

Thats grand, I think this is a decent chip cause it hasn't run too hot on air so far. thanks for the info, i was going to drop around 60euro on getting a block but i'll think i spend it otherwise, I'm considering getting a d5 top instead that or maybe a typhoon hmmmmmm......

How about another rad? :p:

yeah there has been strong consideration on my part to get a larger rad, strongly considering getting a atcs 840 and getting a better rad, well larger rad at least.

Currently everything sits neatly into my case and i'm so reluctant to do any major change, but i can see a nice project in my future
