hey guys

I got a sapphire 5870 that i flashed to the asus bios. i used RBE to up the max core to 1500 and also max mem to 1500.

Now the problem is that every time i go to 1ghz core it artifacts heavily then hangs. i did up the voltage as far as MSI afterburner would allow but it still did it.

i want to run this card under subzero but without sorting this issue i doubt it will be worth it.

Any one have any idea why i does it and how to fix it please help.

Regards R3D

Wait, you ran the card with the core at 1500mhz on stock cooling?

needs more voltage buddy

NOOOO

I try to run it at 1ghz but even 1.35v isnt enough for 1ghz. Gona see what it does under ln2 on friday

1500 is the max in CCC

Sounds like you killed the card.
You can't raise voltage all you want and expect the card to survive.

its fine up to 970 core

So you didn't jack up the voltages?
Ok, then you might consider the possibility that the card can't go higher on air.

only to 1.2v

Me and a few guys are having a ln2 benching session on friday and i was planning to test the card anyway so il be able to tell if its dead or not then.

Already posted on HWbot my air results and its looking good. just wanted to tweak before D-day so as not to waste ln2

Try flashing the original un-moded bios and use amd gpu tool and see if you can reach 1ghz at 1.35v then. Just to rule that modded bios.

Ouuuchh , you are pushing 1.35v on Stock Air and try to run the card at max 1500/1500Mhz  , seems that you have damaged the card already , the core its very small and fragile on this new cards and i have seen plenty of my friends with damaged and dead cards after doing the same as you , on stock cooling 1.25v its pushing it but 1.35 Stock Cooling:eek: poor card could not handle it :shakes:. RMA the card.

Bull:banana::banana::banana::banana:! :D 1.35V stock cooling is no big deal, when fan is 100% :D

temps in crysis never go over 65c

and thats with a heavy overclocked 8800GTS 320 BFG OC edition card in my system aswell for physx LOL :)

Well , BS even with fan 100% stock cooling wont cut it , i know i have been running 3x 5870 since first day they came out and i killed one already and RMA due to 1.35v stock cooling " as per you not big deal " Also i have 2 more friends that happens the same as me and the OP when Pushing and shoving lots of volts and high overclocks on Stock Cooling , But hell what do i know right  im just a n00b .

With this bios, you can use afterburner for everything on 5850; with asus bios you can use afterburner for everything on 5870.

Unwinder made a note at guru3d about using self-modded bioses that aren't directly from a manufacturer (stuff you edited in RBE). He says "Reference design board and original AMD / NVIDIA VGA BIOS is required for proper voltage control on these cards. Voltage control may work improperly if voltage control circuit on the PCB or voltage table in BIOS is modified by manufacturer or by user"

Using this 5850 bios or the ASUS 5870 bios will be fine, they have hash + signature & standard I2c dump. Little overboard on the 5850 slider limits though... lol.

Could be why.

:D, just tell your friend to be careful with high volts on stock cooling , so that his luck does not runs out like it has happened to me and some of my friends already , i push mines on chilled H2O at 1.35v and still the cards dont like it , 1.35~1.40v its for sub-sero
