I need to add a case fan (probably 120mm or possibly one or 2 80 mm fans) to the case window on the side of a Lian Li PC65 in use with my Mach II. I want to get better airflow over the memory and vidcard.

What's the best way to cut a hole in the window? I want a clean cut. I have a dremel but fear that with the window (works fine on aluminum!). Do you guys suggest a hole saw? Mask off the window first before cutting, etc? Just looking for some tips please & thanks in advance.

Dremels are great on windows, however it does take some dremel skills to cut the hole real clean. So unless you have some real dremel skills you could try a hole saw.

I was leaning towards the hole saw myself, much easier cut and then can dremel to smooth. Thanks.

just use a 3 1/2 inch key hole saw :/ then try smoothening(sp) it up with a dremel :/

but you dont want to smooth it to much or you want have much room to screw the fan on :p

with a hole saw:

its the best method. only time u need to be careful is with the pilot hole in the middle, if it catches there it will break the plexi. after that has been made clean the actual how saw blade should not crack/break the plexi. go slow so u dont spin to one side and scratch a portion that wont be cut out

Also don't forget to mask off a large area to include where you are cutting the hole. It helps keep it from cracking, and keeps you from scratching it.

So a 3 1/2 in. hole saw is big enough for 120mm fans? And for 80mm, 3in. is good?

Thanks guys...biggest hole saw I could find at a Sears store in Des Moines was 3.0 inches (looking for a 3.5a). I'll find one.

Plus the damned radio shack didn't have a 47k pot either, lol...not a good shopping trip!
