Hey guys, so for $200 i got a choice:

Either get a Asus EAH4890 TOP, (the oced version) or a GTX 280, (not sure if its the SSC version though)

I got an i7 oced, play at 1900x1200 res.

Which one gets more FPS.

Thanksss :D

The 4890 is generally faster.

Get a 5850 for ~50 bucks more...
OC it some more and there u beat them both really well!

Nah, its ok.. $200 bucks canadian, and the cheapest 5850 is $272CAD + shipping + tax = above $300 cad, where these 4890 or 280GTX are $200 from local ads, so no tax or shipping,
ie, i need to pay $100+ to get the 5850, and running low on cash, want to keep it $200 MAXXX., i mean for just $200 more I can get 5850 in CF :P.

Anyway, looking at tomshardware charts, seems like the GTX 280 is always beating the vapor-x 4890.

Dunno what to do :S:S

Edit: Looking at how NFS Shift performs on a 4870 and a GTX 280, looks like 280 will perform better than the 4890 as well:

Yeah i did research, it seems like the GTX280 is a bit better. Just wanted to get some opinions from here as well.

They're about equal. Would you prefer a 4870 512 or a gtx260? A 4850 or a 9800gtx+? If you choose one brand over the other, then your decision is made :P

yeah and unfortunately if we go to far down the brand choosing road in here the trolls will come out....

the 4890 will have less power draw and once they are both oced the 4890 will take out a 285, and with the gf300 coming out i would expect driver optimization to stop from NV like they did with the g80 when the g92 came out or g92-gf200, but ati keeps optimizing all supported gpus

It is not a good idea to buy outgoing hardware, specially when the DX11 and 40nm cards are just around the corner.

It is better to get a 5x-ATI now, or if you can wait until GT300 hits the marked, then you will get several options with better prices on DX11 cards. These 40nm cards will have much better performance and less power usage&heat, too. These big changes will make the "old cards" to look really old.

Well, right now I got NO video card, and can't wait till the 5x or GT 300 series have lower prices..
so I will get the GTX 280, sell it later once the ati prices are lower and get that.

Get the 4890. Overclock it and it easily surpasses that GTX280. It also has lower power draw and its cooler and quiter running.

Plus, When more and more DX10.1 games come out in the future (I suppose DX11 games will have DX10.1 support), I feel the 4890 will come out on top eventually

I went with the BFG GTX 280 OC. Most of the time it gets more FPS in reviews :|

But anyway, about that DX 11, 10.1, i don't plan on keeping the video card forever, maybe during boxing day (kinda like black friday, but in canada), in december, i might go for the HD 5870 if prices are nice, and sell the GTX 280
