Hey all, If you're one of the 10 mac users out there that use a media player other than itunes and want to use your media keys, uninstall itunes. You've probably noticed that by pressing play/pause itunes is set to open if it is not already. By removing itunes from the applications directory you will avoid this. Alas this is the best fix I have found so far.
