wouldn't you have some sort of software that splits the monitor into feeds from the cameras? I'd use low cost pcie GPU's not the 5870's!! can you let us know what you are tring to do. I appreciate your deadline!!

the client want 8 40 inch lcd connected to one pc.

I was thinking on 4 dual dvi 4850 (no crossfire) on 4 pciex mobo.

than will work? or the catalyst wont allow it?

os could be 7 o xp.

2 ATI FirePro™ 2450 PCIe 512 will do the job.

They look like they would. I'd call ATI support. It seems two x 4850 x2 might do the trick too ( a lot of 2's lol), they have quad dvi output.

It will work, I have done it with 5 monitors and three 4850's.

+1, unless he wants security cams and games

dual 4850 X2's would be the easiest way, and possibly cheapest

or if the guy has a mobo which supports DVI and HDMI output at a single time then you could get just a single 4850X2 and a 4850 or a 5870 six.

I going dual 4850x2, I can get then for 280 each.

there are firegl cards that support 4 displays, dont know if its 4 dl dvi ports, but check it out...
there are even cards with 2 mobile gpus on it to have 8 or more dvi outs, again, dont know if they are dl dvi...

4 cheap cards with each 2 dl dvi outs might be cheaper...

EDIT: they are called FireMV as in multi video and they support 4 dvi-i outputs each:
http://www2.bigblueonline.com/p-58818-hp-ati-firemv-2400-pcie-256mb-video-card.aspx

185$, there is a shop offering the pci version for 150$ on ebay

http://www.amd.com/us/products/workstation/graphics/ati-firemv-2d/2400-pcie/Pages/2400-pcie-specs.aspx

# Max analog resolution 2048x1536 per display
# Max DVI resolution 1600x1200 per display

i think getting 4 cheap cards with 2 outputs each is cheaper than getting 2 professional cards with 4 outputs each... but with the pro cards you get quality support and drivers that are tested to work with lots of displays so idk... id say give it a try with 2 cheap cards and if it works buy 2 more. if there are problems get the nvidia or ati pro cards...

four Radeon HD 5870, 5850, 5770 or 5750 should do it
each has two dvi ports that supports upto 2560x1600, so 4x2 = 8

or you can get four HD 4670 with dual DVI

The FirePro 2450 works great for everything but games. I have one in my computer at work that I use to run a highly specialised virtual machine setup. I dont care about not being able to play games, cause 1) its for work, and 2) virtual machines dont play games anyway cause of graphics drivers.
