Hello and thanks for taking some of your time to help me out :

I want to buy a good 5.1 speaker system for my computer mainly for gaming but also music and video and so far people keep referring me to Bose system I found this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882627032 , the question is the price worth it for Bose speakers or is there same quality for lower price ? Also I need a receiver for it but I don't know which one to pick .

Ideas and brands are welcomed .

Thank you

Find some Logitech Z5500's or hit up a local pawn shop.

How about just getting a decent surround receiver and some real HiFi speakers? Once you go that route you will never go back. :)

Single 1" tweeter
Single 6.4" woofer

Gonna need a sub...

Klipsch are over-rated, but they work good.

I like Yamaha receivers.

Here's a good plate amp (or the next model down one is probably better for your needs): http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?t=2&products_id=500

Generic speakers < Logitech Speakers (80$ to 350$ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2%2050001080%2040000060&Manufactory=1080&bop=And&SpeTabStoreType=1&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=PRICED)) < Bose (600$ to 1200$ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=8%2050009959%2040000494&Manufactory=9959&SubCategory=494&SpeTabStoreType=10)) < Receiver & HiFi speakers (500$ to 5000$ (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1410930))

but be sure this stuff would be worth it for you, I was in the same Dilemma and ended up buying a 2.1 computer speakers system for about $60 from a local shop and found that they are more than enough for me (gamming, music and movies), it even has better and stronger bass than a lot of the 5.1 systems.

Look at some the Onkyo HTiB systems? Many can cost less than the crappy 5500's.

The Pawnshops and Flea-markets are excellent ideas. Old School receivers shouldn't be over looked either while you're at it.

I think I would recommend these instead:

Cheaper and would sound just as good or better IMO.
