So, my brother just got a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 used from a local source. It needed a battery and AC Adapter (which we already have now). Now here is the perdicament. It will boot and run fine on the AC Adapter with and without the battery installed. But when trying to boot by battery power only, it will make it to the bios splash screen and shut off. The battery has a full state of charge, and the connection to the laptop is good. Any suggestions? I had him pull the CMOS battery for 30 minutes to reset CMOS and see if that changed anything...

Any thoughts/suggestions?

2.0GHZ dual core
it has the high-res screen

Battery is toast, ask your local source for a new one or a refund.

It's not a booting issue. You can verify this by unplugging the ac adapter after bootup.

the Laptop will shut down as soon as the AC Adapter is unplugged. We bought a new battery for it, and it still does the same thing...

Check the fuse by the battery connector on the motherboard.

These schematics are from the t60p, but the battery charger should be similar.

stupid question... where on the schematic is the fuse you described?

It's not, but it's on the pcb. Maybe they are in another section of the schematic.

I am having my brother get me a picture of the PCB by the connector to try and trace it out. Where did you locate the schematics online?

Someone leaked the t60p ones, don't' think other models are available.

ok, well as soon as I get a clear picture of the motherboard I will try to figure it out.
