View Full Version : Hydra MVS superior to SLI or Xfire due to architecture mixing?

If you haven't seen it yet, lucid has proven (http://vimeo.com/6700209) that they can mix gpus on windows 7.

Besides obsoleting those stupid SLI licensed motherboards, this might potentially open up better combinations of gpus than the single-vendor combinations. More specifically, due to the unique architectures of the different GPUs (for example RV800 + GT300), hydra MVS systems might have better performance across the board with roughly equal GPUs than vendor-specific solutions. I am thinking of the ability to reduce bottlenecks by distributing texturing/aa/etc to the components that handle it best, especially across many applications and games that vary widely in how they stress the GPUs.

If anyone can understand what the lucid rep was saying, what do you think?
