the g92 isnt the best for an htpc something like a 4650/70 would do better, and they are quiet

if an 8800gt isnt enough then why would u look at a 9800gt they have identical gpus and normally the same clocks. and needing a gpu like that makes it not an HTPC but a gaming pc.

if the 8800gt isnt enough move up to a 4890 its the fastest single gpu card right now once everything is oced and they are sub $200 and that leaves money for a heatsink (the reference stock is about the same as a yate slow with the gpu fan at 30% and thats fine for the stock 850mhz), or spend the $350 for the 285 then the $75 for an hr03.

u should get him and hr03 or trad and a quiet fan, it will be cheaper and if u cant go for the 4890 then thats the best choice IMO. u could also wait untill the new ati cards are out week 1 october and that should lower prices and they are supposed to have a full line up so the midrange there will be like $120 and should match a 4870 or 265 if the rumors are right

yah but its about the same performance (10% better or so, but priced near the 4870 512MB) and they were a pain to get so i kinda forgot about them but i would still recommend a heat sink instead

If you get an 8800gt and you are up to it, you could always
flash the 8800gt to a 9800gt.

Yeah it would just be so you could say you have a 9800gt.
I dont think there are any performance gains at all by doing it.

there might be flashing the 9800gtx+ to a 250gts has gains since the drivers are optimized differently

the r600 has diffrent spacing than a standard gpu so i wouldent get that, just get the trad its a good sink

and add your country to your location

If i dont sell my 8800gt then i may flash it and see.:)

silent is expensive..

im running GTX 285 with HR 03 GTX with scythe gentle typhoon 500rpm.. cant hear a thing and i used to have the 9600gt silent cell..

Temp wise is fairly decent, 40idle - 57 load (tf2, crysis)
