its an analogue and for an htpc dont get something with display port it will mess up the HDCP flags with dvi/hdmi in some cases.

i would recommend a reference card like the his thats always on sale and then a 3rd party sink like an hr03 if the stock sink is to loud for u. i have the stock reference HIS it has no whine and its relatively quiet at stock and uses about 30% fan speed at stock

if u have display port and hdmi/dvi output in some cases in windows it will break hdcp so u will just get a black screen with hdcp content over dvi/hdmi. and as a format there wont be any non integrated display port (laptops) monitors for a good 3+ years except for apple and tvs are even farther off than that


for the pwm, all refrence 4870/90 have digital and the HIS is the cheapest since its always on sale

mine dosnt make any electrical noise and ive had it up to 1.425V and 1025mhz. ati puts more capacity on the pwm than is needed so the ati digital is not like the nvidia one

Why would you be using a 4890 in a HTPC?
Unless you're actually building a gaming PC into a tiny case and using that as a media center.

This questions is specifically for the Gigabyte GV-R489UD-1GD HD 4890.

Does it use analogue or digital PWM? I'm building an HTPC, and I want to avoid coil whine/squealing.

The GV-R489UD-1GD is using DIGITAL Voltera PWM, you can see it from the pictures @ NewEgg
