Apparently there has been leaked benchmarks showing a single HD5870 beating a GTX295 and GTX285 in Crysis. Showing a minimum of 30fps in Crysis at Very High settings.

Still don't know whether it's legit or not though.

What about either a new DELL 27 with some proper specs to reflect the state of HDTV's, or a 30in with 16:9 hi-rez.
6 monitors....talk about enthusiast:D

I have 4 LCDs at home, 1 x 30'' and 3 x 24'', and will try this for sure! And I have all the space on my desk to use those. :)

But I'm interested in the 5870x2, so I will have to wait... :(

Samsung is making thin bezel monitors for this application.

This is the screen shot that bothered me....

I know that there are super thin bezelled monitors, or really thin ones anyway, but I just fail to see how having four matching or six matching monitors is cheaper/better than having a nice 52" or 57" HDTV ( WIth absolutely NO seams). I guess if you have 4 identical monitors, it's worth a try, but good luck mounting it on your wall. Not trying to buzzkill, but kinda seems like a marketing ploy to me.

On the other hand, if 1 x 5870 can actually outperform a gtx 295 it would seem ATI has it's bases covered!

are there any 57" HDTVs then with a resolution greater than 1920x1080 ? I dont know of any HDTVs that have a 16:9 aspect with a higher resolution than that.

You did look at the resolution, right?

The bezels may be annoying when navigating through menus, but evidently your brain quickly learns to ignore them during gameplay.

I actually like the option of being able to run 6 FPD's...

Not sure i ever would, but just having the ability is a value add for ATI.

As for the 5870 being faster than a 295, it probably is, but I do want to see the official benchmarks. I hear the drivers get released Monday, correct?

The reviews should come shortly there after.

The only thing that bothers me about the 5870 is the 1GB...

When GPU's are used for GPU accelerated apps, the amount of data you transfer over the PCI Bus can be a bottleneck. One of the possible solutions is to load as much graphics data over to the GPU as possible initially, so only the results need to go over the PCI Bus during gameplay.

I probably didn't explain that right? :p:

Anyway, in short, I would like a 2GB monster card. I think we have heard that a 2GB 5870 will get made down the line...

If I were buying a 5870, I would want the 2GB version if it would be released in the near future.

Yeah, I guess your're right...having the option is a plus (only given that the card is so powerful).

I think they are capping it at 1GB and saving the 2GB version for the 2 Core 5870X2. THere are still no official benchmarks so I hope this basic review is not a FLOp. If this benchmark is accurate it is going to be a hell of a card. I wonder when new games will actually start to be released in Driect X11.

With these kind of numbers I may have to upgrade my Quad-Fired 4870X2s....fro a pair of badboy 5870X2s. I hope they work something out to keep the cards QUIET.

BTW - You know everyone is talking about the new GTx 300 series, and I'm sure they'll kick arrss as well, but one thing they won't be able to contend with is that 40nm chip. I mean DAAAMMMMNN....that is tiny....Ati has had 55nm chips for a long time. That is why they are able to put more power on the same amout of space ( the size of the PCB). Nvidia is still stuck on 45 nm chips...at least for now!!!

That's my plan. 2 X 5870x2 to replace my Tri-Crossfire set-up, and 3 or 4 screens. :)

WEll, now I know I can put a Mega TRon LCD in my Living Room. I'd like to see benches at 7680 x 3200... that would definitely take Crysis to a Whole Novvva Level.. :hehe:

It might even have the same results as it would at 2560 x 1600 considering they are 30" monitors. I wonder?

projectors are the easy way of getting rid of lines.

7680 x 3200... not happening on a projector.

I thought OEMs can choose how much mem to put on a card?

is it 6 displays per single GPU?

I havent read too much thb.. I thought to get 6 displays u need 2x GPU (ie - the 5870X2)

6 displays per GPU @ 1920x1080/1200

3 displays per GPU @ 2560x1600.

I wouldnt bother running more than 5 displays in 3D though so you wouldnt have the bezel split horizontaly.

I'm not saying they don't have a choice, I think it's a mem bottleneck thing where ATI has kinda fine tuned it's cards at 1 GB per core.

This makes me want to buy 5 more projectors just to see how amazing it would look at the uber high resolution. But on the other hand, I dont think my XBox 360 or Bluray player would work out too well in a setup like that.

so will the 5870X2 come out with 12 display ports? :D

is there such a thing as display port-to-DVI adapter? :D

I was thinking about the exact same thing. I have a 4K resolution projector at home for a review right now. :) Imagine 5 or 6 of those! Crazy!

I could probably use 3 or 4 1080p projectors in my room, but the max screen size I can have is around 16 feet wide by 14 feet high in that room (my screen right now is 8 feet wide). I'm really thinking of trying it with the new 5870.

I can just remore the border on the screens (Da-Lite Hi-Power) and get a ''no bezzel effect''. :D

Basic 5870 comes with 3 DVI ports + a diplay port (manufacturers choice of course) But there is a special Eyefinity card with 6 display ports.
