3 AMD systems at your service.

2x Phenom and a Phenom II 965 BE... all 24/7 :)

Oh yeah and one idle 4870x2. Get with the program, BOINC. :p:

Welcome to the team!! You could crunch Milkyway@home (http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/) on your GPU.

welcome, you can add GPUgrid for your GPU folding.

GPUGrid doesn't support ATI to my knowledge... But an option is F@H or Milkyway like mentioned! (Hopefully WCG will come around soon.)

Welcome to the team!

Thanks all.

I've tried F@H, but there are two problems:
1. It interferes too much with WCG and causes pretty bad lag while using the PC. With WCG/BOINC running, I can do almost anything I want with no lag, but when F@H is crunching on the GPU, the lag is pretty bad. Also, the CPU overhead is 100% load on one core, so it reduces WCG output to boot
2. The client only utilizes one core to about 50% capacity. GPU-z confirms this as I've logged the results several times.

I just don't think it's worth it at this point... but I suppose I'll give the Milkyway project a go.

Strange, my 4850 just needs 2%-3% of the CPU time with F@H and I have no lag to report. What driver version do you run? What core client do you have? What values do you use for the F@H environment variables?
Do not install the CPU client from F@H together with BOINC. That will kill all your resources.

^^turn the cpu usage down to fix that.

No dice, Chum. That simultaneously turns down GPU usage :shakes:

try this:
change Core Priority to "Slightly higher"
set CPU usage percent to 100%

add the following system variables to the environment variables:
BROOK_YIELD = 2
CAL_NO_FLUSH = 1
CAL_PRE_FLUSH = 1
FLUSH_INTERVAL = 96 (Your card is faster than mine so you should be able to set a higher value here - but start with this one first)

PoppaGeek has some different settings that work for him better.

Good Luck

Ohh, I forgot ... make sure you join team 36362
and ... my GPU is not running 100% load with these settings. depending on the WU it can vary between 90% and 97%

Welcome to the team. I had the same problem with folding and cruching. I gave up on the folding. With this new info I may give another try. I have to 3870's that could use some work.

:welcome: to the team mate! :up:

I've got almost the same issue with my 4870X2 as it only runs on one core and every now and then FAH crashes :( But it doesnt affect CPU or using the computer. Dunno whats different.

Thanks for joining up!

ATI on FAH is a little more cumbersome than nvidia on FAH, that's for sure. Takes more tinkering to get close to just right ("just right" doesn't exist yet). There are 4 environment variables you can play with to help with the CPU usage and help it play nice with WCG. With my current variable settings, on the current unit on my 4870, for example, I'm averaging 0-1% CPU for FAH, leaving the whole CPU to WCG :) But on another unit, it was taking up to 10% of the CPU (basically 40% of a core on my quad) :rolleyes: Supposedly they are working on that, but I'm not holding my breath for it to happen quickly. They are kinda slow addressing stuff like this.
