View Full Version : AN7 Multiplier Problem

I'm running the AN7 with a unlocked Barton 2500+

I have whole number multipliers like 12, 11, 10, but no 1/2 multipliers. The system just reboots like when you have a multi the board doesn't like.

10.5 won't even boot. 10 is flaky but 11 and 12 are good.

I think we need a new bios to fix this. In the other An7 Solving thread, Twiggy doesn't have any multiplier control at all.

I forgot but I think it was 0330 SPEW. Bought it months ago and it's unlocked.

After playing around I got my multi's but now Im in the same boat as you, no .5's. Also I put on a air hs for a LAN and my 10 multi blowz. I can run it 11x200 stable but 10x220 isnt stable no matter what.

I'm running it at 208 x 12 right now. That's the best I can do to max out my CPU. 11 x 221 is only 2434 so I keep at 208 for now.

How in the world do you release a board that doesn't have .5 multies???????

I will look into it and let you guys know if there is going to be a fix.

The system is somewhat unstable when I change the mulitpliers to anything with .5 in Windows with OC Guru and we are looking into that right now. However if I change the multipliers in the BIOS from 10.5 up to 12.5 in .5 increments, there were no stability issues. This is running on a 1700+.

You need to use a Barton 333 part then. Sometime it will even boot into windows using a 1/2 but will reboot after 1 min or after any load. Most of the time it just reboots.

Ok I will give Barton a shot, can you list your components in the future when you ask a question, thanks.

EDIT: nevermind you did, my bad.

So what is going on with the 1/2 multiplier issue on the AN7 and unlocked Bartons?

Man, many people are having this problem. I bought the board 2 weeks ago and no fix. What's going on already?

This is an AN7 thread, NOT a NF7 thread.

** DELETED BY HARDASS ** REMEMBER THIS REP IS DOING THIS ON HIS SPARE TIME, NOT ON YOUR TIME.

I'm sorry but I'm MAD. You know, I shouldn't even try to get this board fixed and waste my time. Whether he's doing it on hs spare time or not, this is Abit's representation or it wouldn't say Abit Marketing on it.

Why can't people see how they are avoiding talking about the problem? They won't even admit to it. Do you want people to buy the board and get stuck like the rest of us?

I'll tell ya Hardass, I'm finished with Abit. I didn't buy their products for years and then started again with the NF7-s.

I'm going back to Asus or whoever has the similar board.
I won't give this company 1 cent of my hard earned money again.

I apologize to YOU because I respect people who respect me.

It,s your choice what you do about switching companys. But this section is not for ranting. Do that in the open forum. In this section you ask the question, and the rep will do his best to help you. When he is able. Thats it all post like the one above will be deleted without warning.

Just got my AN7 in from Newegg and it doesn't have the laser cut on the back or any hand added resisters. Waiting for my memory now.

I am wondering if there's been any update on the .5 multipliers issue with the Barton 2500+'s .. was hoping Abit Marketing got around to testing this. This thread is possibly outdated by now, but just thought I would check. Thank you.

Hi

I like my NF2 Ultra Infinity at 10x245 11-3-2-2-2.5 - Aggressive

hey techtones, i've confirmed it.. i couldn't get any response or help from abit on the issue, therefore got rid of an7 and went to a dfi lanparty rev.b ... i haven't even started priming it yet, but it i booted it up at 230 x 10.5 right out of the box... moral of this story: not getting the .5 multi's wasn't the chips fault :) ...btw, going from abit's support to dfi's support is like going from junior high to harvard .. new bios' about every 2 weeks, dfi techs working directly with you and answering questions (in same day!), etc.. but enough about all that; just wanted to give you a head's up on the multi issue.

Wow now that sounds like a good deal

I'm happy you're happy with it ;)

Well now you see the difference between how a company treats their paying customers. customers want respect and recognition after the money has left their hands if they have a problem.

The last thing the Abit tech told me in their forum was

"I tried a 1700 XP on the AN7 and it had .5 multies. I will next try a barton 2500+ like you suggested and I'll get back to you"

He never, ever responded to me or anyone else about this issue again even when asked over and over. He wouldnt even acknowledge being asked the question. Irritating, insulting.

OK, now I'd get the DFI, but I NEED 2.1v to run my Barton 2500+ at 2525 using water. Many in here would rather have a high FSB and mem score and low CPU horsepower then the other way around. I don't get it. Even Ed from overclockers.com showed how you don't get much better performance by raising the FSB and not taking advantage of more CPU Mhz.

But it's pretty amazing it booted up at 230 right away. Are you sure CPU Interface is enabled? Has anyone here compared scores with this on and off on the DFI? I know on the NF7 and AN7 it made a BIG difference.

Anyway I'm putting the whole AN7 fiasco to rest.

Options are optimal and aggressive...CPU Interface set to "Aggressive" and CPC (Command Per Clock) is set to "enabled" .. I understand enabling the CPC is equivelant to T1... I haven't tried disabling, but from what I've read in the dfi forums that disabling CPC will increase how far you can push your fsb, but take a big performance hit.

Before changing motherboards I ran Sandra memory bench at my old stable fsb/multi combo on the AN7 at 213x11 .. this produced scores of 3080/2920 .. I just ran the test with this board at 213x11 and scores were 3250/3140 ...I guess that explains why the dfi seems so more responsive to things like mouse movements, opening and closing programs and windows.. I must say, it is smooth as silk.
