1600 is over kill for a lappy IMO. check this out; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157020. pretty good for 800 bucks, pop in a 7200 hd and your golden. heres some info on the vid-card- http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4670.13881.0.html

I like the MSI MS-1651, 9600m GT and you can find them pretty cheap on ebay and places of the like. There is also a refreshed version with a 9800m GS (the model number evades me).

I just got my ASUS G Series G51VX-X1A in the mail today. It was definitely worth the cash at $1299 from Newegg. It runs everything that I have thrown at it smoothly from Supreme Commander to COD4 with 4x AA @ 1920x1080 resolution.

The full keyboard layout is definitely a plus for gaming and it is also back lit and has great tactile feel when typing.
The speakers are kinda crappy when compared to my old 18.4" Acer that had 5.1 surround sound on it :p

@Knissel - thats actually similar to my old Acer I was referring to above, except mine was faster processor/mem.

Concerning major hardware updates: Intel is about to release the Clarksfield processors (quad core) but they might be out of your budget. The Arrandale processors (dual core) will be released in January (or around that time i think) and they should be better than the current dual cores, as well as being 32nm
