I've make my research as good as I can (I've been more than 3 hours googling every memory I can find in retailers in Spain lol), the best part is not for me but a friend...

It's for a Gigabyte 790GX-UD4P with an X4 810. So, he wants cheap (of course) and good (not stelar) memory, I found these options:

G.Skill F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK - 75€
Mushkin Performance HP3-12800 DDR3 1600 4GB 2x2GB - 79€
Corsair Twin DDR3-12800 1600 CL9 XMS3 DHX 2x2GB - 86€
OCZ3P1600EB4G, Platinum EB Edition - 86,99€ (8-10 days shipping)

That pretty much is what I can get for under 100€, can any of these sticks (apart from the OCZs) make 1600 7-7-7-20?

It's ridiculous, people in general in Spain still buy the RAM by the size, that's my guess as to why there's so little options. Heck, it's strange to find someone who doesn't think it's waay better to buy a 8400 with (shared of course) 1792mb of VRAM than a 4890 with "only" 1024Mb :shakes:

Why not buy from outside Spain? The OCZ 1600 platinums Low Voltage are great, mine do 1333 6-6-6, 1600 7-7-7 at ~1.65V and even 1600 6-6-6 with some more volts.

Got them for €75,- here in NL, 2x2GB that is.

Yes that was my option but as I said its for a friend of mine, and he's reluctant to buy from an etailer he can't go to a real life shop...

Anyway, could you tell me where you got them? Thanks!

Yes, it's either 100-120€ or not available. I'd love to know from OCZ (Tony where are you? :D) if this RAM is going to be discontinued or what. I don't even know what ICs it has.

God, I hate buying RAM, it's always the same. I don't really understand, its like with monitors, why couldn't the manufacturers be more clear? If you buy a motherboard, you know everything about it, even who make the caps. The procs, well it's annoying how many there are but no "hidden" ICs or panels with the model number, they're all the same. GPUs, easy chip and ram amount.

But with RAM (and LCDs) you have to research till exhaustion to get to know what you really are paying for, you have to deal with all that Platinum HZ Viper Xtreem PI NQ Blade EB Reaper bulls**t!

They are replacing it with the non AMD version. It is "OCZ3P1600LV4GK" (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227482). I think they discontinued the AMD version because so many people had problems running it at 1600mhz (due to IMC). Try to find that kit if you can. It should be the same kit and overclock the same. They are great chips.

It most likely has Micron D9KPT chips. Mine scale with voltage, even above 1.9V something Samsung HFC0 or Elpida not or barely do.

The IMC is not to blame, it's just that the chips can't operate at those frequency's with just 1.65V without some fine tuning.

I couldn't get mine running at the rated 1600 7-7-7 with 1.65V but got it going at 1.72V and after adjusting the Dram reference voltages i could get 1600 7-7-7 at 1.67V.

Actually the IMC is to blame which is why you have to run high volts ;) 1.67v on asus is actually 1.73v FYI.

I don't see how the IMC needs more voltage instead of the chips on the dimm's?

Not all Asus boards overvolt Vdimm, the Rampage Extreme for example was spot on, verified with DMM. ;)

if it is me, I will limit myself to those two with Bold marking.

I think I'll wait a couple of weeks for the OCZ 1600 7-7-6-20.

Oh and I found this too:
76,50€ OCZ Platinum Edition Dual Channel 2 x 2 GB DDR3-1800 PC3-14400 CL8-8-8-27, with those timings at 1800 can I assume the same ICs as in the 1600 7-7-6-20? Not available till 09/15 either... :shakes:

I know you didn't mention the availablility of Crucial kits, and they may not be available in Spain... But I went though the same thing recently.

If you want a cheap 2x2 kit look for the 1333 CL9 Crucials (rated @ 1.5v).
I'm a performance freak, and I'm not going to say I'm totally happy with them, but from a price/performance perspective I'm not sure you could do a whole lot better!

Mine are rock stable at 1500/ 7-7-7-24-30 w/1.65v, really pretty good for a $70 4Gb kit...

No Crucial options viable in Spain at all, there was a time (like 8 years ago when SDRAM 100mhz was the standard) but after that only standard (OEM) Crucial... Thanks anyway!

//EDIT: BTW, how does the Intel specs affect to AMD systems? I mean, can you still get good timings even when they're not the best as in an Intel system?

it depends on your cpu IMC
