I get my check once a month. Usually the 2 or 3 of the month. Seems like everytime I figure out what I am going to get Newegg changes the price, never down of course, or runs out of the item.

I was going to get a PSU and a re-cert 260/216 this month. Put them on one of the Opterons and GPUGrid. The sold out of the 26/216.:shakes:

So while I pout and feel sorry for myself I have a question. If I got a re-cert 275 or 280 and put it on the 9850 which has a 650 Watt Corsair can I put the 192 260 with the 216 260 on the 810, which has a Corsair 750 and run F@H.

I remember OC saying in a thread on F@H that you can mix cards with different shader counts under certain circumstances. I THINK it was if they were of the same multiple. 216-192=24 216/24=9 192/24=8. Or am I off track?

I can get a re-cert evga 280 for what the PSU and 260 would cost. But the 260s have to go on the 810 with Corsair 750. Will they play nice?

the 750 should do well with one gtx280 and still give you a decent little over clock on the cpu , the 650 is cutting it a little close.all so the 750 will run both 260s but i would not put a crazy oc stress on the cards whats the draw for full load for one card 227watts i think . use your watt tester and get some real world #s

you missed my question. will a 192 shader and 216 shader fold together?

folding im not sure but on the gpu grid you can mix shaders i got a gts 250 working with a gtx 260 its working good,

sorry poppa on the miss read its been a long day of work today started at 4am and finished a 6pm i guess im tired out,

F@H does seem to have issues with cards with different shader counts. Just not sure what the secret to all was. OC will know.

when i first started with XS folding team OC was playing with different cofigs of mixed cards so i know he would know
what works best, i think it was OC not sure now most of the
guys did not mix the shader with different cards.

time for bed i am falling a sleep in my chair.

The rule was for folding only and was you can only mix shaders if one shader count is an integer multiple of the other so....64 with 128 or192 works, 192 with 216 not. I've read that there are no such problems on grid

OK thanks. Since the 192 will not work with the required newer drivers and therefor not with GPUGrid that will not work.

I have found no way to run Grid on one and F@H on another on same machine. No way to designate which card to use or not use.

OK kinda tired of Newegg and it's bouncing around prices. The price on the new GTX 260/216 went up to $194. Non-overclocked one. No way.

Amazon has EVGA 896-P3-1170-AR GTX 275 896 MB DDR3 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00243FPRO/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance) for $235. BUT Amazon does not charge me the 9.5% sales tax Newegg does and free shipping. This makes poppa happy. :D

INFRNL you seem to be happy with your 275s, any gotchas I might ought to know?

I am tired of fighting with the Evga 260/192, I am RMAing it. It crashed on a OpenGL astronomy app.:shakes:

:shocked:for that price i would spend a little extra for the re-cert 280,hmm i am not sure i would play the price game in this economy right now. back to school price gouging i guess i would call it,most parents would buy it. not knowing any better.all they are thinking is the kid needs it for school.:shakes:

Sorry about all your problems and my delay.

I am real happy with my cards, but not sure whats going on with the grid and my rigs the past couple weeks :ROTF:

Try TigerDirect or ewiz
Tigerdirect has the card for $230 vanilla with $20 rebate, 15% cashback, and they should have $20CB from paypal till the 11th through TD, not sure if the paypal deal is member specific or not. I got an email
ewiz has the card for $220 or 230 with rebate and they have a laborday15 promocode now too for $15 off instantly and 10% cashback.

Fry's has the vanilla card for $145-150 after $30 rebate, but its B&M I believe and with taxes, kind of kills it for me and I dont have a fry's although I have Microcenter in denver, but no $$$ atm :ROTF:

I will do a search if you need to help you get the best price, but I think TD or ewiz is the bestdeal atm.

I suggest the vanilla card from evga unless you can get the oc version for $5-10 more which it is sometimes

I knew you couldnt get away from those 260's....Still should have used tiger or ewiz; probably would have been cheaper. hope this one brings you good luck

For one thing I want more GPUs that can't work together. Did not like the idea of too many different cards.

I cannot use credit. From what I can figure out CB requires credit card. Paypal CB I could not figure out how to do it. I stoped using rebates long ago. Burned too many times.

And some things going on in RL that it would be better if I cut back on my spending a bit. Still hope to add another quad 1st Oct and maybe another 260 later. I really wanted the 275 but I am glad I could at least get the 260.

Funny thing. I bought the 192 at full price new. Nothing but problems. Bought the re-cert 216 no probs. Does whatever with whatever driver. Go figure.

I do not own any credit cards, get me into too much trouble. I just use my bank account through paypal; cause to get cashback upi have to pay through paypal. As for rebates, I try to stick to the no-wait rebates which have been good to me. I have only been burned a couple of times from rebates. Its worth it to me. nothing like getting money back when you least expect it. Als it only takes a few minutes to fill out and mail. if you get it great if not you paid what you expected anyways, right?

the one through paypal I do not know if its only for certain people or not.

I am glad that you have a new card on the way though and as long as you are happy and think you got a good deal is all that matters.
It is kind of weird that your recerts are working without issues and you have issues with your other cards.

I would buy recertified 275's if they had them and if they were cheap enough. with recerts, it is nice that you done have to pay full price up front and they are usually slightly cheaper in the end.

I think I know why the Paypal CB was not offered. My Paypal is a business account. I had a ebay store for a year or so.

^^^ possibly, not sure. I have a preferred account or whatever its called; when you can accept credit card payments and they charge you fees for everything.

Either way, too late now and your card should be on its way. Let us know how it turns out

i was looking at those cards and i really was considering buying them i know OC runs them for folding at home and was racking up the ppd. but i decided to go with newer cards instead.the gx2 is a good card for that price but it was even lower than the price its at now a while back ago.

OldChap

I'm not getting any more gx2's even though they make a lot of sense for points...in summer they just get too hot and as they age they seem to get hotter. I bought a 295 for a trial and it runs 60 deg so 10 deg less than gx2. The next trial will be 275.

My efforts so far on grid have been mostly with an original 9800gtx ssc 1944 shaders and a few days trying to get 260's working so each side of a gx2 should get a little less than my daily average to date up till a few days back. My guesstimate is a gx2 gives about 500-1000pts less than double the figures seen last month here: http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=user&proj=ps3&name=29855

I ran into some big bills I'm having to chunk down over the next year, so I haven't spent any money on pc's in a while.. and wont be for the next year or 2 until I get this bill paid off and my monthly budget has some breathing room again. so my little collection of 3 quads, 4 gts 250's, and 1 gtx260 will have to suffice until then. by then maybe octacore's and monster gpu's will be cheap.

shadowwind
09-07-2009, 05:46 AM
cool by then the octa core desk top version will be out then you can make more bills, the good kind of bill i don't mind paying for if its computer parts.
