I just got some new hardware for my rig. A AMD Phenom II 945 and 2x Radeon 4890's Crossfire. After Installed I formated, then ran 3dmark06. I got about 16k. I dont think this is very reasonable so I overclocked and got a little under 19k. I dont think this seems right here, and I was looking for some reason why this would be. Here are my specs:

Windows 7 RTM
CPU: AMD Phenom II 945 @ 3.5ghz
MB: Gigabyte MA790FX (GA-MA790FX-UD5P)
Vid:2x Xfx Radeon 4890 - Drivers ATI 9.8
Mem: G.Skill 2x2gb DDR2-1000 5-5-5-15(F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ)
PSU: Corsair 620w

I'm thinking I might be lacking in my power supply but on the other hand I think it manages power well enough for my rig.

Thanks for your help.

What speed are you benching at......3d 06 is a very cpu bound bench.

You can bench 2 4870x2's or 4 x 4890's and not go very far at stock speeds.

If your looking for a bench that will measure more "graphic based" try vantage or 3d 03.......but unless your benching 4gig cpu speeds and up don't expect much in 06.

Im benching at 3.5ghz

Im benching at 3.5ghz

That would be the reason your scores are low in 3d 06.

I did it at stock speeds and about 16-17k

Why is that?

The score looks normal for a 3Ghz quad core with xfire 4890s.
Maybe someone with Deneb and xfire 4890 in their rig can do a quick comparison.

He already answered your question. Overclock the cards, the cpu, or both and your score will go up.

3.5ghz is 500mhz overclocked. Are you saying thats still too low?

Frankly I don't know what you expect?? Can you tell us what kind of score you expect from your system and where did you see similar score like that(expected),please provide a link.
For a 3.5Ghz CPU,you can see your score scales up pretty good, indicating the nature of the test(cpu limited). 3dm06 is becoming rather old and unrealistic test since almost all games are GPU limited at resolutions commonly used by gamers.

And yes,3.5Ghz is mild OC,but still a decent one(16% over stock). Generally,a "good" and noticeable OC is considered to be roughly 20-25% over stock and up from that.

Eh overclocking his cards atm is sort of pointless.....He is cpu bottlenecked with 2 4890's for the 06 bench.

Oc your cpu to 3.6 and you will probably just hit shy of 20K if your hitting 19k at 3.5.....

Your going to have to OC CPU and CPU_NB to get your 3d06 score up, that just the way that bench works.....

The bottleneck will be eliminated for 2x 4890 at about 6.2 gig ;) thats about the point of diminishing returns and then you can benefit from Ocing the cards really high.

I am at 3.75 Ghz 24/7, 800/100 on my x-fire 4870's, and I am inching closer to 22k. Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember chew* saying something
about cpu clock speed. Something like...for every 100mhz cpu speed, expect 200 more points in 3d06?? Or something along those lines.

Depending on the cards..... 2x 4890 IIRC is worth about 1000 points per 100/100mhz scaling of cpu/cpu_nb I would have to check my notes but thats a rough avg maybe more like 800-1000pts

Also you can boost your score with 2x cards by using windows XP versus vista or win 7.

XP worth about 200-300 more points in the cpu score at same clocks.

What's the voltage for 3.75ghz?

Yeah, I know the real factor in his "low" score was the cpu. If you're looking for max scores it doesn't hurt to oc the cards a bit as well.

i have 2x4890s , so i just ran 3d06 @ 3.5ghz . cards on 900/1000 , NB was still @ 2800 though and got 20805 points

SM2 7709
SM3 11146
cpu 5000

It doesn't really help honestly. In fact when you really push the clocks on the cards it can lower your scores.......

for comparison NB @ 2000 cpu 3.5ghz 9.8 drives on both btw

Score 20238

SM2 7470
SM3 10954
cpu 4799

about your PSU , i saw a 610watt power draw from my wall socket running my rig , ok i run slightly faster cpu , i did use a 700w ocz and i didnt think it was up to the job.

610w? do 4890 draw so much power like that?
I recall I can run CF-X 4870+4850 with my E8200@4ghz, 2x1Gb of RAM, 2x HDD, 2x ODD, and I'm using Corsair VX450w. Run without problems though.
so, with my setups like that, it must never draw >450w.
is it?

I thought PII draw much less power than C2D?

was a peak i saw once , but was regulary over 500w running 3dmark etc , i did try 4890+4850 cf before i got the second 4890 and it was about 100w less at least , read somewhere the 4890 is about 190w stock ?
