 Sounds Good. You were the first one to cross my mind when I read that thread. IIRC, you have like 5x 260s that you have serious issues with?

i asked GDF about my 192 and he hasnt messaged me back. its strange that their labs only have 280s and 275s and no 260s. maybe thats why they dont word cause he said something about FFt's.

I finally swaped machines my cards were in. I need to figure out if I have a bad card. The 260 192 would only run on 182.50 dirvers and the 260 216 errored out fast on F@H so I swapped machines. 260/216 is now on 810 PC with 182.50 running F@H and 260/192 is on 9850 running GPUgrid with 160.38.

OCCT crashed on the 260/192 after swap but ran Furmark fine. So many people have told me the 192 is a bad card but I have never been convinced. It did close to 200 F@H WUs error free. Never an error on CUDAMemTest. I suspected it might have something to do with NB drivers for GD-70.

LOL while I am typing this on the 9850 with the 192 the driver reset. CRASH! Gonna try 182.50 now. LOL SO MUCH F*C*ING FUN!!!!

i feel empathy for you about the failures. but i dont think this is a driver issue considering i have tried everyone with the same results. i have a strong feeling it is the program itself:

There is an outstanding problem with 216 cards mostly during FFts.
i think fft's are used to calculate energy transfer but that math is way over my head. if you want to check it out Wikipedia it.

they don't have any 260's in their lab and that might be the reason it is the only card having so much trouble.

I have both cards on F@H now and will for awhile. 192 still will not work with newer drivers. Besides I want to get data from the 216 on F@H. Very frustrated right now.

I have no doubt that much of the problems people are having are to do with the program. But some of us are having problems with drivers for certain cards. Such as 123bob and his KVM issues with everything above 182.50. Nvidia made a change after 182.50 that effects some cards/setups in a bad way. I should just RMA the card and I might but with 182.50 it does F@H just fine.

My 260/216 is fine with 190.36 and GPUGrid and F2H with 182.50. I may get a PSU and put the 192 on one of the Opteron Linux boxes. Am curious how it would do.

it may do well in linux, as for me i gave up on the 260s i got 2 one works one doesn't so im going to put those 260s back in the wife computer,I ordered 3, 285s when i got mad at the 260s and sold off 6 gtx 260s im done with those vidcards, and i guess istandbul is going to wait till i save up cash again.:shakes:

this thread seems to have disappeared off of their forums. i guess he got what he needed. the 260 is the most poular 200 series card anyways so getting these to work should bring a nice boost to gpugrid.
EDIT: whoops the thread is still there.

I have read 2 long threads, one HardOCP the other Evga, and many people have problems with drivers above 182.50 on the GTX 260. The threads were not about folding or crunching, mostly games but also some other issues such as power states switching or downclocking. Someone said Nvidia rewrote the shader code after 182.50 and that it is just now with the newest drivers getting better. From what others said this seemed reasonable. One described exactly how mine has acted.

Anyway it has cooled a bit here so running both on F@H and 182.50 drivers for now. I guess I'll get a new PSU next week and try the 192 on Linux. Still trying to decide whether to get another GPU now or not.

i got impatient with the 260s they are really a good card for video and tv once the drivers get worked out they will be even better for the gpugrid. poppa are you gong with another earth watt psu,or some thing else, i picked up a 750 earth watt with the gtx285s to free up my silver stone 1000 watt for the 285 im not sure that going to run all 3 cards i all so picked up another power cable for another psu if i need to run 2 psus.

The 2 PSUs I am looking at are Earthwatts and Corsair. I _THINK_ a 750 would run 2 260s but feel a 850 is a better bet. But really the 650 is more inline with budget. The Earthwatts at $79 for 650 and $94 for 750 is real tempting and reviews are ok on them but the one weak point seems to be 12v. The one place they need to be strong. May end up with another Corsair, the 2 I have are doing well.

I really do not know how much more I can do. Heat and electric bill are going to become a big issue at some point and I don't know if that will be at 3 or 4 cards. I see no way of me doing 5. I do have a system I am thinking of putting 2 260s in and maybe 2 PSUs would be a good idea instead of 1 850.

I stick with the 260 because at $129 for a re-cert they are easy for me to buy. If I could I would go with the 275/285.

you will be fine im going to keep going till the wife starts beating me on the head about the electric bill. if it wasnt for the 6 gtx 260s i sold i would of never considered buying gtx285s but i was mad and in the heat of the moment i pulled the trigger, now if nvidia comes out with new drivers for the 260s and they work i got a gut feeling my 285s wont work and they will start kicking down to 2D.:shakes:

Well the good thing is the 2 260s are folding away happily. I am climbing the F@H ranks quickly and getting close even seeing pie. Both on 182.50, may try 216 on newer driver later and see if it will fold on it. Would not fold with 190.38 on when it was on the 9850.
Boy they do run warm though. One sits on 65c the other 60-62c, it is in a HAF 932 so not surprised it stays cooler.

if what im doing with naja works i would like you to try it out on the 192 260 , the wu is at 82% right now on a card i could never get to work at all 30% to 40% was the highest i could crunch on till it errored out, so things are looking good so far,

@ PoppaGeek :D got my fingers crossed to get 1 good work unit,if it works then up the shader and see if i can get another,:)

hey pops forgot to say get your pie first and enjoy it there is nothing better than having seen you got pie with a early morning cup of coffee its a good feeling.
