AMD has delayed the release of its next generation chipset for the LEO platform, the 890FX will be released in April 2010 in the first week of Cebit. However if thing goes well we can expect mass production the early February.

The RS880/890 speecs haven't yet released but it should come with a brand new SBS800 along with Sata3 support with more than 6 Sata port which is supported by 790FX currently and host of other options.

AMD has internally delayed its 890FX chipset. Even though samples should be available in September time, initial production won’t start before January 2010. This looks like a whole quarter delay to us, but if all goes well AMD hopes for mass production in February 2010.

The launch is now planned for April, which is surprising as Cebit was usually the time when AMD launched its chipset, and Cebit usually takes place in the first week of March.

The VP of chipsets at AMD Phil Eisler went to Nvidia and this might cause some changes in the company's chipset strategy but overall, AMD won’t really have any new CPUs until this time either.

The 32nm AMD quad-cores are expected in mid-2010, if all goes as planned.

Currently AMD calls this chipset AMD 890FX, while the official brand is still to be decided. It might very well end up as 890FX.

hm, whats next new, maybe better performance with 890FX than 790FX :)?

That's more interesting than a new chipset if you're asking me.
But then again, this is FUDZILLA!!!!!

I want a new chipset, the SSD and raid performance of the SB750 is not on par with intel =/

right, but is better than with SB600 :)...

SATA ports is controlled via Southbridge.
and SB700 natively supports 6 SATA ports, so does SB710 and SB750

maybe this next chipset will accompanied by SB850?

tandem with 32nm AMD cpu, this maybe the next best thing to come :D

Its very disappointing that AMD has delayed the 890FX chipset, I really wanted to get one this year.

they are most likely holding it for the next "platfrom" ie: "Spider","Dragon"

But, I could be wrong...They are releasing the next GPU earlier.. I dunno, AMD has been sneaky lately.

"Leo" is the word you're looking for ;) After this we have Bulldozer with platform "Orochi"

I for one is really looking forward to "Leo", first we have Phenom II with a new stepping later this year, then HD5000 couple with new chipsets. Not really interested in 890FX itself, I want a new ACC function!

Orochi is more than 4 cores 4 threads 32nnm :D. BTW the 880/890 will have unlocking features as well, I waited to sell my crap Jetway 790GX but it seems I have to buy something better now :(

No need for a 890FX unless it brings PCIE Gen3.
But the 790FX could use a 55nm shrink.

+1 on that, or 45nm cold loving SOI, even 40nm for lower power usage 790fx only use 15 watts max.

but anyways this delay isn't as bad as we think, It was originally intended to have the HD 3300 or 4200 with side port but now that's already out it should 40nm 5,000 series (Gddr5 256mb+ would be nice) hyper hybrid crossfire now ? lol

so what should it pack

new igp
pci express 3.0
sata 6.0
usb 3.0
HTT 3.1

When is DDR4 coming out? DDR3 seems like nothing special at all just hate to go with a new chipset then wham! new ram 4months later. I decided to hold out for a hexacore and I would very much like to go from my dual core to a hexacore. Oh yes..... yes I would... I do hope it has pci express 3.0

this sux ... no wonder they're so quiet lately ... last minute announcements :(
what r they trying to do? make a surprise comeback in year 2010? or boosting shares prices?

They've been pushing this chipset back a lot, I'm curious if its a cost issue, a chip issue, or a general engineering issue. I'm guessing they are trying to pump out as many 5000 series gpus right now not sure if that puts a hold on chipset production. But more time to clear out the sb600 and sb750 inventory. I've noticed a few price drops lately and some rebates.

ddr3 is way better than ddr2 its stable and its speced to run up to 2ghz so we have a long way to go before ddr4, and i think that ddr4 may be skipped for ddr5 since gddr4 offered liitle to nothing over gddr3, and gddr5 is qdr so having a qdr platform would help out alot since it would give us another 2x per clock jump like sd to ddr. but again way off

My guess they're adding sata3&USB3 thus the delay.
The server version of the 890fx (SR5690) is already out and
might even be a better option (can have more then 1 per motherboard=PCIe lanes) if you do not need the sata & USB 3.

*sigh*

Guys this is "old". Look at the OP date ;) over 3 months ago...

And I see no sign of DDR4 on the horizon so I'm not worried about that. Currently DDR3 has more than enough bandwidth... for now at least :p:

I guess i'm not Extreme. I'm very happy w/ an sb600 running my solid state in a "slower" way than everyone on Intel's or AMD's newest SB.

When you guys say new platform, do you guys mean new socket? AM3 isn't very old.

Well there was previously no mention of Sata 3 support on new chipset so i think its good that its later then sooner if they add that hardware support to the next iteration of chipset release.

AM3 is here to stay ;). BD based Orochi will be AM3 compatible, but probably DDR3 only(no DDR2 IMO<so a no go for all the AM3 boards with DDR2 DIMM support)

That's bad, but it's good for me to save up more for better 890FX board
I wish they put in ACC 2.0 for overclocking / Unlock Phenom II x6 fun
