whats your honest opinions

5 mins surfing and typing this after the 3Dmark2001SE test.

temps

Socket 48C
Diode 60C
Case 30C

Peaks during the 3Dmark2001SE test

temps

Socket 53C
Diode 74C it came down fast after test is this way high ??
Case 32C

Test score 15445 marks

Barton 2800+ (2174mhz) asus delux MB,, fan cooled system for now.

question is the Diode temp is that the chipset?? and are these good or bad temps for that score??

what video card?

And those temps are kinda high.

ati 9700pro
1 gig Geil PC3200 ram

took the side panel off for 15 mins running idle and got the following

Socket 43C
Diode 55C
Case 27C

put the side panel back on basically idling for 10 mins and got

Socket 47C
Diode 59 - 60C
Case 30C

74C on the diode is way high. I don't like my temps going over 50C even when benching. I'm at 37C right now while folding.

What kind of CPU cooler are you using?

What kind of CPU cooler are you using?

CPU is a AERO 7+ running at 2500 rpm but seems to keep the CPU stable.

the diode monitors which part ??

The diode is actually in the processor. It is a much better indicator of how hot the CPU die is than the in socket sensor.

Your AERO should keep things much cooler than that. Maybe you should try reseating it with a new, very thin layer of thermal grease. Perhaps the heatsink isn't totally mated to the CPU die.

Just one more thought ... the difference between your socket temps and your diode temps are huge. Normally they only differ by a few degrees. Perhaps a wrong temperature is being reported. What kind of mobo are you using?

I don't know too much about that board. Maybe another forum member might know something ... or even better do some searching on the forums for how that board reports temps.

Personally, I never let my Temps go above 50*C, after this the systems stability reduces greatly although its good to wrack up some heat for burning in and this is the only time Id let my temps go up past 50*C, ONLY for Burn In
You need to get airflow in and out of your case, equal in as out is best but never more in than out. More out than in is ok but even all the way is best
You dont want more in than out as the air wont be able to be taken from the inside of the case as quickly so it will warm up and your ambient case temp will rise thus your CPU temp will rise too

With you AN78X Deluxe, the in-socket diode may be bent downwards and not touching the base of the processor?

What Transfer Interface material (TIM) are you using? A good quality TIM like AS3 or AS5 will be much better than pad if you are suing a pad or any generic white paste TIM.

I used stock white stuff that came with the AERO 7+

if the Diode is spiking up and not reading right should I just ignore it??

The Socket temps are staying steady within 2*C at 49C

By spiking up, referring here to the diode, if you mean standing up then it should be standing up and touching the bas eof the processor. Its when its flattened down it wont read correctly. If the diode is pressed down it will read lower temperatures so the temperatures will be less accurate. The generic paste you have used will not conduct heat as well as a thermal paste such as Arctic Silver 5. A paste like Arctic Silver 5 though will burn in the more you use it so your temps will drop after a few days of use.

guess I won't worry about it

looking at a chiller or direct die setup in the near future.

thanks for the advice.

well, did you ever try re-seating? if not, you may want to consider that. also, i saw you are running a 97p. IMO 97p's run pretty damned hot. i know this isnt why your termps are outrageous, but at the same time, it certainly isn't helping.

that could be true

Definetly try re-seating the heatsink with a new layer of a good quality thermal paste. Not to rub it in but I use a better thermal paste on my GPU, NB and SB than you do on your processor! It really does make a difference in temperatures and as the systems is used more the tmeperatures will lower slightly as the paste burns in.

cool deal I will try that for now

oh ya who has the best price for the thermo grease you are suggesting?? Also will this same stuff work on a direct die setup??

thanks

I dont know what country you are in as you havent put a location in so dont know which supplier to suggest.

Where do you live please?
