Well, I know Linux is pickey about what chipset it uses so I wanted to know what sound card I should look for. My integrated sis chipset dosen't work. It's on RH 7.2

FIY: The Sis735 Nic dosen't work. and neither do any Cnetpro cards.

EDIT:
Also, anyone know how I can get my scroll wheel working in Linux??

My Sis735 works fine in SuSe 7.2 - a no-brainer install with the sound and on-board LAN of the K7S5A working right out of the box.

For Slackware 8.1, from a post by Tigger - http://pub65.ezboard.com/fk7s5amotherboardforumfrm9.showMessage?topicID=48. topic

"...Slackware 8.1 on the K7S5A.

edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and add the following line:

/sbin/modprobe sis900

That is it. Rerun /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and your lan connection will be up.

Sound is :

/sbin/modprobe i810_audio
..."

RedHat should be the same/similar...

For wheel mouse, check out

and

http://jonatkins.org/imwheel/

I never took the time to do it, but should have. Love my wheel mouse in windows!

Well. I'm gonna quit using ECS products, but It WILL NOT see either my lan or sound on my k7s5a board. The Netgear works great tho.

It's gonna be a while before I can try those, but thx anyway man.:toast:

I had that board with Mandrake and it should find your nic like stated above. The onboard sound won't be found by default install.

Any SB cards should be a good bet for linux, except the audigy, not sure that one is supported yet, at least not in MDK 8.1

Well, that's what everyone tells me but it didn't. It says it couldn't be initalized, started or whatever when I get into KDE.

it's Red Hat, not mandrake. I assume there is some kind of change between the two, because I found at www.redhat.com that both my OB nic and sound card are not supported.

Beats me, I just know they don't work.
