Hey, i havent been on in a long time and i havent been keeping up with the new phenom II x4's or the new motherboards.

i currently have the DFI lanparty mr2sh or something like that along with the phenom 9950 BE overclocked to 3.4.

Im looking to upgrade... i like the new X4 @ 3.2 stock
whats a good motherboard with some nice overclocking features?
what kind of ram should i get? i see some triple channel kits that look nice but is triple channel only for intel?

please post me a few links from neweggg :)

Triple channel memory is for i7 platform.

What is your budget?

I dont really have a budget since this is all a tax write-off :)
i own a computer repair company :)

I dont want to spend a bunch.. i basically just need cpu mobo and ram. i already have a tj07 with a watercooled 4870x2 :)

You can use the modules from the triple channel kits on AM3 mobos. However it will only support dual channel mode with two of the modules.

I would suggest you wait for an 785G/SB710 Mobo to be release and get a Phenom II x2 for some cheap overclocking and unlocking fun!

im not really into OC'ing fun.. i like to get a new setup.. overclock it a little and then just look at it for awhile lol. since pc gaming is dead.. i really shouldnt even bother upgrading but im bored.
whats the 785g/sb710? why wait :P If i wait for that.. someone else will say "you shoulda waited for this" lol

You mean like one of these? (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010200022+107191003+1071948911&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&Subcategory=22&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=)

Buying a triple channel kit for an AM3 mobo is kinda pointless and a waste of money. Just get a dual kit.

If you aren't into overclocking, you could get this little beast of a chip:

AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103687)

What is your budget?
go for a 955/965BE and that 790FX mobo if you have the money! :D

I'm just a bit cash strapped so I was just suggesting the route I'm going for best bang for the buck.

This is a good kit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148227
I run these @ 1600 7-7-7-18-15 1T with 1.95 24/7. They are only $65 so they are very replaceable! Pay no mind to the reviews on the Egg...

unkn0wnhacka: Welcome back stranger... :D

As the other guys said the tri channel kits are for Intel rigs. This seems to be the best DDR3 kit for PHII's.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227447

Of course they are OOS... But as far as I know these are the same sticks in a 3x2 kit.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227381

A little more expensive, but if your a system builder I'm sure you could find a use for the extra stick (or buy 2 and have enough for 3 AMD rigs... :p:)

I have the GBT 790XT-UD4P board and it's a monster! Nothing like the crappy stuff they put out in the early days of Phenom, the UD5P gets even better raves from what I've seen... I think it would be a very good choice.

I know your ready to buy now, and I'm like you, I hate the "wait for this deal"... That being said, the 965 is probably very close (some sources reporting 08/03/09). If the 965 turns out to be better than the week 22/X2 550's I think it would be worth giving it a few more days...

Hope this helps....... Dave

965 on 8/3/09?!?!?! WOW

I actually got that from BLT's recieve date, they always have a tendancy to list new gear early so it may be BS... :p:

I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn up on the Egg before the 15th though, alot of places are offering killer deals on the 955's so they must be clearing stock for a reason....

Only time will tell, but I don't think you could go wrong with the UD5P...
I seriously doubt the 785 will be able to beat it, the 785 is probably more of a budget/nice IGP board.

For memory, look for stuff with tight timings and low voltages.
For Mobo's look for boards with a strong PWM (8+2) and good cooling.

It's still pretty early for the 785 boards, so BIOs and drivers may be a problem too. The Asus 785 does have 8+2 power though.. ;)

There's nothing wrong with your current MOBO if it's this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136057
Just slap a 955 in there with a good cooler and you'll be good for 3.8Mhz or wait for the 965 to come out, you can always upgrade to DDR3 later if you wish

3.2 ghz would be good enough for now i guess... i wanted to upgrade my cpu mobo and ram.. that way i can always just slip another cpu in there later :)

I'm gonna be the odd man out and say why even upgrade? I can play every game I throw at my system and it's a dual core clocked lower than yours. a 9950BE is a nice chip what can't you do with it? lol send it this way if it's slowing you down haha.

Glow, if you can upgrade for a tax write-off, why not?? And OP said he doesn't game.
