This one is in my shopping cart (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.212178), money should be in this weekend. I have a Foxconn and it has been fine. Especially for $4.99.

Really wanted the 955 but I have other needs as well, 2 PSUs, so it is tight.

@ poppageek - you really are an AMD guy aren't you? Why is that?

(just noticed you're always talking about AMD stuff and whole farm is AMD - not ment in a bad way at all just curious as to why. Want to learn what i can)

I guess he enjoys slow and cool. :p:

I enjoy my Phenom I 9600 and my numerous older amd rigs that I used to run.

But is it any cooler/cheaper/produce more than say a Q6600? Again - idk, that's why i'm asking!

In general all AMD cpus run cooler and are slower than their Intel equiv, but phenom II 955 vs Core 2 Q6600 is something that an owner of both would have to tell you sense it's newer vs older.

a good clock on a 940 can 18,000 wcg points according to Dave. so yeah, its q6600 comparable or better, i7 is where the crunching gold is 8 threads is awesome even at stock.

Speed is relative. AMD may be slower but not slow. A 2.5gz quad is a fast PC.

Yeah understandable but we're in the WCG section so speed is relative to crunching output.

I've been trying to talk him up into raising his 810 speed on PM too :p: But yea, you can ask Dave how fast a Phenom Quad is, he was certainly very convinced that its smoother than an i7 system :)

Perkam, when you say clock to clock it means performance at the same clock.Be it 2.4Ghz,or 3.2Ghz,it means both of the CPUs are compared at the same frequency. I guess you meant that Deneb is faster than Kentsfield at the same clock but a bit slower than Yorkfield at the same clock,in WCG. What I'm trying to say is that there is no need to mention model numbers since they all work at different clocks. Phenom II 955 @ 3.5Ghz is faster ,by a good bit, than Kentsfield at 3.6Ghz-that's straight from Movieman. I presume Yorkfield is some 5% faster than Kentsfield at the same clock in WCG, so a little bit faster than Deneb at the same clock.

I got in on one for a 945 + Asus M4A78T-E, 4GB Corsair DDR3-1600, and a Samsung F1 1TB drive for $392 shipped. $125 off - basically a free HD and a discount on the ram. Board, RAM, and CPU are for someone else but still was a hot deal. He saved money, I got a cheap 1TB drive, both are happy... oh yeah :D I didn't really need the drive, but my 250GB drive setup was getting a little tight, so for the price of another 250GB heck why not!

There are some good deals still but all the MB deals are gone. I wanted a 955 or maybe 945 and a MB. One I had picked out was $4.99 with 955. The 955 was for my GD-70 and MB for another barebones cruncher. I'll wait another month gotta but PSUs and wireless and a may grab a 4870. One I want is now $149 + free shipping. Well for now it is....
