We are glad to announce the availability of the full cover heatsink for nVidia GeForce GTX285 recently released P892 reference board (the new GTX285). The part is made of black anodized aluminum extrusion.

This is a companion product to the MCW60. Here are some hi-res pics:

Looks great Gabe! Any thoughts on doing a 4890 heatsink?

Awesome, lol Very nice looking. Er, never sat down to look at my 285 to tell whether it was a P892 or not. Guess I should, it's a fairly recent purchase though. Mayish.

I really like the pricing on these btw -- about the same as two of the Enzotech or Swiftech 8-piece copper ramsink kits (you'd need at least two, maybe three of those kits for one GTX285).

Haven't decided yet whether to order direct from Swiftech, or wait for PPC or one of the other mod shops to stock these, so I can lump it in with an order for some more compression fittings and other misc things I need...

not really. the MCW60-4870 works with it, and its a water-cooled heat pipe, so there is no need for a heatsink.

Wer'e in the process of making them now. I'd expect them to ship to the channels within ~3 weeks.

Daddy likes. For a while D-Tek's options were the only full-cover heatsinks for GPUs...it's great to see Swiftech is making them too, especially given how common the MCW60 is.

gabe, I hate to bug you about this again but, any word on when the 3.x5 DDC's will hit the channels? Maybe give them new designations so we know.

just a question, but why thermal tape/pads? why not thermal paste? Is it because of the clearance issues and contact?

Pads don't perform as well, but they're more of a "sure bet" as far as contact goes. PCB's are typically warped and especially with a product that uses standoffs, contact can be spotty at best with mem chips/VRM's that aren't always sitting perfectly flat and at the same height.

Eh, I ended up ordering from Swifty anyway. I forgot how expensive PPC is for S&H :shakes:.

The installation went well enough. At first glance, the standoffs look a bit short, but the spring-loaded stock heatsink screws they tell you to reuse seem to bottom out before the point where you're tightening enough to flex the board. The heatsink itself didn't feel all that heavy when I held it in my hand, but the card definitely had a heft to it after everything was installed. I don't think I'd trust one of those single slot replacement PCI brackets with this, and I can't imagine if they had tried to make this out of Cu instead of Al.

The stock Nvidia heatsink was not doing a great job. Even at 100% fan speed, the GPU core was reaching >72C under gaming and even higher Folding with the ~90F ambient temps recently. And the PCB temps were being dragged upwards along with it.

Temps with the heatsink + MCW60-GT200:

(ambient temps are reading 86F from the wall mounted thermometer)
