Hi

I'm gonna buy this board to build a new workstation and need at least 4 sata slots for raid 1.
There fore I was planning to put disk 1&2 in raid 1 en put them on GSATA2_0, GSATA2_1, and put disk 2&3 in raid 1 on GSATA2_2, GSATA2_3.
These are the white sata slots on the board.
So I have the blue sata slots free for other things.

Is there any one who has experience with this ? Or some usefull information about it, al the help is welcom.
I saw in the msi thread that de msi gd70 board has some trouble with the jmicron raid so there for I choose this board.

Sorry for my Englisch just a Dutchguy.

Thanks for youre time/help.

The Gsata ports, the white ones, are for ESATA, not RAID disk arrays!

From Gigabyte :

South Bridge:

1. 1 x IDE connector supporting ATA-133/100/66/33 and up to 2 IDE devices
2. 6 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors supporting up to 6 SATA 3Gb/s devices
3. Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID5, RAID 10 and JBOD

GIGABYTE SATA2 chip:

1. 2 x JM322 chips (Smart Backup):
- 4 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (GSATA2_0, GSATA2_1, GSATA2_2, GSATA2_3) supporting up to 4 SATA 3Gb/s devices (Note 2)
- Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1 and JBOD

How can you explain this ?
They talk about sata and raid support.

Maybe they mean EXTERNAL RAID support ie; 2 drives in one external case.
I own this board and I can tell you that GSATA is not for using primary drive arrays! GSATA is mainly for ESATA and backing up settings.
When you get the board you also get two dual ESATA port add in cards for ESATA in which get plugged in to the GSATA ports.
GSATA is for ESATA not SATA!

Oke :up::up: I understand. Thanks for youre coment. :toast:

Knowing this and the fact that I don't use esata, came to the conclusion that this board isn't wat I was looking for.
I saw an amazing review of the Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P.
The results came close to the MA790FXT-UD5P and this board also has 6 sata ports and cost a lot less. ( half price )

Thats what I need a lot of sata ports.

If you to have any suggestion, don't hesitate and leave a comment.

Thank you all for your comments.
