I've been watching this thread:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=228552

I've tried my best to compete, but I guess I'm either missing the skills or the gear to actually compete. FWIW, I did finally get sub 17 seconds though.. ;)

While I was playing with SuperPi (which is a really crappy bench for AMD btw), I decided to try a WinRar run...

I was pretty impressed with the score I got by tweaking for SuperPi... :p:

Winrar has always been one of my favorite benches for tuning real world performance on Phenom chips, from my experience, the better the WinRar score the better the overall experience from Phenom...

I finally broke the 3000 KB/s barrier!

I'm sure this score won't last long, but let's see what ya got.... ;)
Make sure you at least let it run for 5 minutes, not stable of course, but it will eliminate suicide shots... :D

Keep in mind this score was done with an unlocked $100 X2 550. :yepp:

whau, nice ...

My is only this (but DDR2), setings was about 3850MHz/2830 for NB...I can try higher, think, 4Ghz with the same NB isnt problem

And here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=229492 is Cinebench R10 challenge, post your score too :)

I dunno what the deal with WinRAR is. Some people get great numbers. I see < 2000 on dry ice.

have u any new version? 3.71 or so? Here is trial 3.8 http://www.stahuj.centrum.cz/utility_a_ostatni/komprese/winrar/download/?g[hledano]=&g[oz]=3.80
Performance is better with higher CPU clock and o.c. with higher NB clock.

I do run a modern version. I bought WinRAR some time back after living on trialware forever. I figured they deserve it. Is it just a problem with the x64 builds perhaps?

Winrar is mostly, and pretty much only, about Ram bandwidth. And of course everything associated with bandwidth like NB speed/Uncore. i7 owns this one too...I just ran it and get 3400MB/s with my lowly 24/7 setting (4Ghz, 1600Mhz C8 Tri Channel, 3,2Ghz Uncore). I think the record is somewhere above 5k.

for PII is record above 3600KB/s, i never seen more to time with AIR...5k is think for i7, right?

i remember back in the day wirrar speeds were somehow hurt hard from having certain usb devices plugged in. no idea if thats still an issue

DJ sub, to much CPU clock, unstable...but nice score :). Can u try it with 4500MHz and first with HTT and second without HTT (=4threads, not 8). Thx

My 24/7 settings Current KB/s is low because i started the the Snipping Tool so mine does 1808

It seems 7-zip is faster than WinRAR?

WinRar does seem to do better on 32bit OS's (at least on Phenoms). That run was on Win7 64, which only made me happier... :p:

It's quite possible I only broke 3k because of DDR3 , but this little 550 is better than my 940.

BobyTT: Very Nice! I would assume that was done on an I7?
I guess adding the IMC on die really helped Intels on this bench, from what I've seen in the past C2Q's had trouble keeping up with X4's...
Doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

charged3800z24: Was that a 32bit run? Either way

Guys it's a pure bandwidth bench. Of course the CPU with the fastest memory interface will win, which is curently i7 with Tri Channel DDR3. Might be interesting to see how a Dualie fares in this... I'll run it on my Gainestown tomorrow.

it's not PURELY a bandwidth bench, otherwise it wouldn't scale with cores, nor clockspeed.. but obviously a major bottle neck on each core is ability to feed it data on this bench

And how is score i7 or xeons without HTT?

Yeah well ok.. maybe 90% bandwidth 10% count/speed of cores...
But it definitely is down to how fast data can be moved to the cores (--> bandwidth)

Winrar obviously can't use a great # of threads properly (yet).

With DDR2 is hard to broke 3000kb/s :(

did you use ram at 2,000 mhz ? or 1066mhz ?

could be extra L3 cache too.

Anyone here using new 3.90BETA x64??
It gives nice boost to scores compared to 32bit!

So far I've tested it under Vista x64, but as you know Vista is killing WinRAR score. Still 32bit gave me 1.7MB/s and 64bit 2.3MB/s

I will re-run under XPx64 but I it had same problems as Vista from what I recall.

lightman: really? 3.9beta x64 is better than 3.8 in 32 XP?I have with winrar 3.8 only about 2000kb/s in x64 win7...

Give it a go! That run I was giving numbers from was done @3.2GHz 2.4GHzNB 1140MHz mem (DDR2)

It's a shame Vista and XP x64 are slowing down WinRAR this much. I wonder how Win7 is handling this app.
