Hi'

My video card (7900 gs) in my dell xps 1710 is starting to fail and im looking into a replacement for it, however at dell they could only upgrade it to a 7950, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if its possible to add a 9800m gt or similar card instead? and also a good place to buy such a card (europe prefered)?

Yes, you can only upgrade to a Geforce 7950M GTX. The ability to use more recent videocards is blocked through the bios.
You can only find it in ebay, but they're very expensive and very hard to find.

I also heard something about being compatible with Quadro FX1700 (= Geforce 8700M GT), but I'm not sure about that.

Look for:
Geforce Go 7900GTX
Geforce Go 7950GTX
Quadro FX2500 (= 7900GTX)
Quadro FX3500 (=7950GTX)
There are codenames for these parts but I don't really remember them..

You must make sure they are for Dell Inspiron 9400 or Inspiron 1705/1710.

Here's how to do it:

Thank you ToTTenTranz, guess it's a 7950M GTX then.
