When I select exit BoincManager it's till running? Without going into task manager, how do I properly shut down WCG?

the first time you end BOINC manager, it asks whether it should terminate the WUs or let them run.. if you didn't check terminate you know why it doesn't ;)

Just pause (snooze) BOINCmgr icon in the system tray then exit if you need to pause for longer than 1h (after 1h it will auto-resume)

Or go control --> pause in BOINCmgr, that will pause indefinitely.

I also use the "SUSPEND/RESUME" button on the projects tab.. especially if I just wanna like stop gpugrid to monkey with the gpu's, and leave wcg running on the cpu. or vice versa.

Go to Advanced (top left)>Options>General tab>Check Enable Manager Exit dialog>OK> then Exit Boinc> Manager Exit dialog will pop-up>Check both: "Stop running science applications when Exiting the manager" and "Remember this decision and do not show this dialog".

Easy answer - Never :D

I leave it running when doing anything, for gaming I just shut down the F@H GPU client otherwise I can get some nasty lag but WCG shares the CPU just fine.

Shutting it down will cause your Phone to ring:p:

Snooze usually gets the job done if you find a odd application that does not play together with it nicely, but other than that you can leave it running no matter what you do and it won't cause any noticable slowdown.

Strangely enough, that doesn't always happen. I've got "stop running science apps" selected, and yet sometimes when I shut down BOINC Manager it'll still leave WU's running in the background. Won't always stop it on my laptop (Win7 RC1 x64, 6.6.31), but I don't have that problem on the desktop (Win7 RC1 x64, 6.6.20).

As for stopping/suspending BOINC, if you just need it to stop for a short while, right-click on the notification area icon and click "Snooze", which will pause it for ~1 hour (good if you often forget to start it back up again. Say, if you're old like Dave ;) :p:). If you need it off for a little while, open the BOINC Manager window, then Activity > Suspend, which will stop all work until you change it to "Always Run" or "Run based on Preferences". Or if that isn't good enough for you (Don't know why it wouldn't be ), you can always go Advanced > Shut down connected client.

Are you talking about the bug where when you shut it down the processes are still there? I've had some luck with that by hitting snooze and then exiting the client, but sometimes it still is there. There is still a little chatter on the e-list on that matter I think, they're still working on that.

I am calling the WCG Police, I am ready to die...

BTW, I am going to try GPUGRID, 1 client and see what happens...
