Welcome to the Super Pi 32M Low Clock Challenge! This was Coop's (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/member.php?u=6997) incarnation, I am simply carrying on the tradition of this great little thread. Many Thx to 3oh6 (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/member.php?u=25380), who did lay down the rules and updated the list from November 2007 - April 2009.

The Rankings:

Intel Rankings (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3875295&postcount=2)

AMD Rankings (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3875298&postcount=3)

The Rules:
1/ Super Pi Mod v1.5
SPi Mod v1.5 found here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=82419)...thanks to XS!

2/ All loops, Real memory, Available real memory, Allocated memory and Checksum visable (Must-Have!)

3/ Screenshot with CPU-Z tabs CPU & MEM open (Must-Have!)...others are encouraged though. It's suggested for AMD users with 890 chipset to include the tool THG clock - more information here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3875304&postcount=5)
CPU-Z found here (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php)...thanks to Franck!

4/ Included in the screenshot has to be Memset or CPU-Tweaker including subtimings (Must-Have!)
Memset found here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92190)...thanks to Felix!

5/ If your settings are actually different as shown by CPU-Z/Memset/CPU-Tweaker then please disclosure

6/ We go by the honor system ladies and gentlemen...if your score is out of line for your specs, the torches will be lit and you will burn ;)
Honor found here (http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/honor)...thanks to MW!

Requests:
1/ Please only post one score per forum post...makes it easier for updating

2/ DO NOT use links to ImageShack with thumbnails...i will not go to that site, your score will not get added. full size images embedded in the post only please.

FAQ:
Q: What is the Super Pi 32M Low Clock Challenge?
A: The Super Pi 32M Low Clock Challenge is a competition to try and get the lowest CPU clock frequency for specific time zones.

Q: What isn't the Super Pi 32M Low Clock Challenge?
A: The Super Pi 32M Low Clock Challenge is not a thread for posting your best 32M SPi time, unless of course it happens to be just creeping into one of the time zones.

Q: What are the time zones?
A: The time zones are basically the minute marker but for each zone, it is the absolute highest time without venturing into the next time zone. For example: the 12.XX time zone is for 32M results in-between 12m 00.000 and 12m 59.999. So the ultimate goal would be your lowest CPU clock frequency required to run 12m 59.999 or as close as you can get to it without going into the 13.XX time zone.

Q: Why would I want to waste my time doing this?
A: If you are asking this question then you are wasting time that could be spent optimizing your 32M SPi times to get you higher up the list at various time zones...now get to work!

Changelog:
06/07/2009: Stricter/additional rules
30/07/2009: CPU-Tweaker/Memset is mandatory.
13/06/2010: Color schemes for the Intel Ranking changed from "Intel Core 2 (65nm / 45nm / 45nm i7) Rankings" to "Intel (Core 2 65nm / Core 2 45nm / 32nm/45nm i7 (LGA 1366) / 32nm i3/i5 (LGA 1156) / 45nm i5/i7 (LGA 1156))"
08/08/2010: Memset/CPU-Tweaker rule refined: Subtimings have to be included
06/06/2011: Suggestion for TGH clock (if using AMD 890 chipset) added.

THG Clock
As suggested by chew* you should include this tool if you use an AMD board with 890 chipset, because these boards are affected by reference clock fluctuations. That's how chew* explained it:
There is a clock discrepancy issue with floating clocks on many 890 boards where you can snap a screen at 3 fsb lower than actual speed.

Providing a shot of thg real clock in the screenshot eliminates any questions of actual clock speeds.

I attached this tool (unzipped: 48 KB), because it is not that easy to find out there. I assure you I didn't modify the exe and it is a clean file. However if you don't trust me, feel free to search it by yourself. :)

Ok, the new Super Pi 32M Low Clock Challenge has opened. As mentioned in the old thread the existing AMD results are canceled for obvious reasons (not linked, no RAM-details etc.)

Maybe I will split the list later (Core 2 & Core i7 for example), therefore I need the reserved posts.

Thank you all for your kindness. ;)

I updated #595 - #623 from the old thread, except Zeus`s AMD results (I`ll link the copied versions in this thread then)

I couldn`t add two results through missing CPU-Z/mem window:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3761451&postcount=595
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3794426&postcount=618

Sorry hiwa & coop, but these definitions are binding:
Screenshot with CPU-Z tabs CPU & MEM open...

Anyway to be honest I can`t stand Jody`s table scheme. It`s moving around all the time, I have to add/delete dots manually, sometimes there are gaps I can`t see in the code and so on. It`s so annoying that I needed two hours for #599 - #623 - I`m not kidding! So I`ll attempt some other table schemes soon, otherwise I become mad.

*updated to #631* (step by step ;))

Automatism sounds nice, but wouldn`t help that much. Someone has to look through all the screens if they abide the rules. Plus many copy&paste-schemes are not correct and don`t match to the screens, so I have to modify them. Table is not flush right atm because of the reasons I explained already.

Btw I have modified/extended the rules a bit to prevent the following situation, which I doesn`t like. :(

@alex_tpc: Sorry mate, but you missed out CPU-Z/mem here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3842777&postcount=631). I think nobody doubts your score, but I as an human update bot can`t add it.

Bugger :(

Cool...didn't tweak the mem settings any ...other then what was in the bios. No worries.
But I didn't see it say (Must have) for memtest, yet in the rules...confusion abounds. As I do not see it in the 6.xx reports either

Will have to work on Superpi with Memtest in ss.

Hi, it's just about knowing all the sub timings, as they have big influence on the result.
Besides we are talking about Memset, not Memtest ;)
But for Core i7 you should use CPUTweaker anyway.

A huge update is coming this weekend, don`t worry. :)
Last weeks were a bit busy for me, sorry about that.

@all: Do you think is it a good idea to modify #4 of the rules for future results (not retroactive, so nobody will loose a result) from
4/ Included in the screenshot should also be Memset or CPU-Tweaker
into --->
4/ Included in the screenshot has to be Memset or CPU-Tweaker
so that CPU-Tweaker or Memset are mandatory and not an additional feature?

Originally it was my intention to stick to the old rules completely, but this way we can compare results better. CPU-Tweaker works with socket AM2(+)/AM3, 1366 and soon 1156 for sure, Memset is great for socket 775. As mentioned before CPU-Tweaker or Memset is actually better than CPU-Z/Mem, so if CPU-Z/Mem is a mandatory already there`s no reason to leave out CPU-Tweaker/Memset in my opinion.

If nobody complains I`ll modify the rules and will not accept a score posted after July, 31th without CPU-Z/CPU, CPU-Z/Memory and CPU-Tweaker or Memset - and Super Pi of course.

mAlkAv!An
07-24-2009, 03:33 AM

As some of you may have noticed I added all results from the old thread meanwhile, but because XS is/was veeery slow and partially offline the last few days this was a PITA already. --> Next update, when the performance/stability issues are fixed.
Reminder: If you have got some decent scores without CPU-Tweaker/Memset (but CPU-Z/CPU + CPU-Z/Memory) post them NOW please. Scores posted after July, 31th have to include CPU-Z/CPU, CPU-Z/Memory and CPU-Tweaker or Memset.

Hey cheap, i see you're giving the Rampage Extreme another spin mate? It seems to play nice with the blades, doesn't it?

I've got me a Rampage Extreme again (expecting it to arrive this week), it was too much fun to miss out on.

Needless to say i will give 32M another whirl. ;)

3/ Do you agree with DJSUB - shall I delete older scores, when an user posts an update score within a time zone with the same CPU type?

Pro:
-More clarity, more compact lists and better overiew

Contra:
-Less results for comparison, you can`t study the update history of an user anymore

PL8 at 630+ FSB ain't gonna happen for me, at least not with this (water)cooling i'm using. ;)

My OS must be really cr@p for 32M, i just cannot touch the efficiency of the likes of Kintaro, cheapseats, ToyTen or 3oh6, not even close!

Did a desperate attempt at sub 11 minutes with 4x1GB CSX Diablo.

I was actually able to run the timings as tight as a virgin despite 4 sticks of ram!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/Z3us/screenshots/32Msub113969.jpg

Efficiency still sux though. :(

This time i disabled a hell of a lot services, killed a lot of processes, killed explorer, quicklaunch bar, clock.

Olive theme, maxmem 600, copy waza, pi_rec from cheap, pagefile 512-512, realtime prio, core affinity, etc.

I even uninstalled my ati vga driver!

After tweaking and trying for almost 2 days i finally am in the same ballpark as the 32M big guns for efficiency. (well, almost)

Still not on top but better than i've ever had it. :)

I lost count of the number of 12.00.xxx runs i had but i can assure you it was more than 10. :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/Z3us/SuperPifactory/32Msub12min35576.jpg

The trick was to set AI clock twister from light to moderate, stopping about 15 services, checking the CDT box of SPi tweaker and some more tricks.

I think i can take a rest now. :D

Up till now I did not test Superpi 32m with air, perhaps I wil do that later on.

dont waste time with air....it's always better subzero :D

i gotta do some efficiency testing soon when i find a suitable C3 chip and do some comparisons with a couple of different boards

looks like you set some kick ass benchmarks to go by....i like it :D

I had used the setup for the LCC 3DMARK05, so I thought why go back to air. :)

you can't make blanket statements like that. i can make 2K3 faster than XP and XP faster than 2K3, it all depends on how the OS is setup. there is much more to the OS than what version it is. some people can make a really fast XP, some can make a really fast XP...there is no definitive faster one

my friend 3oh6 i speak only default without tweaks in my opinion!
but what's the point of that :D

with that said, 2K3 was actually faster out of the box back in the day because it came default with LSC enabled...XP
didn't and that made it much slower. but that was around XP SP1 time so who knows with SP2+.

**PS what happened to this place, it stretches all posts again instead of just the post with the big image..that sucks

i try many 2k3 with all tweaks i know ,lsc, max mem, page file++and all the same tweaks in windows xp sp3 and i see that xp is faster in the end, only in first 3 loops 2k3 is a little faster!i say again he is my opinion in 32m and always with velociraptor:)

how much of a difference can you make to an OS if you set it up properly
not sure how much you wanna give away in what you setup but at least in time differences would be good to see

for example stock OS with usual tweaks that ppl would use say LSC 512-512 maxmem around 600-700 compared to your tuned OS

are we talking a few seconds or less?

ah man, i wouldn't even know where to start guessing from. i haven't done a comparison like that since E6600/QuadGT days. not even sure what i could dig up from screen shots would be relevant.

if i had to guess, i would say at least 3-4 seconds give or take. it isn't going to be night and day but certainly substantial enough. with i7 though, that number could easily be cut in half, hard to say really.

most of the setup use to be about getting the OS to get the most out of copy wazza, again, that isn't so much the case with i7 anymore i don't think

We've seen in the gigatweaking event Dino, that a system that was booted in diagnostic mode to be several seconds faster than the more tweaked ones (and faster ones on paper lol)... I always tried that and always was it slower...go figure...

Till now my I4memory aka eva2000 XP OS is amasingly fast for pi32, beats my teammates tuned server 2003 clock for clock. Yet I seem to get asswhooped by that taiwanese or chinese version lol

Andrea Yang edition FTW!funny thing about those OS's.....it is so easy to destroy the "natural" speed boost they tend to show over other OS's altering even the smallest little thing. Really though, when it comes to the sever/xp efficiency debate both OS's can be chopped down to the same efficiency IMO. I feel that there is a "ground zero" with regards to OS efficiency. It just boils down to finding that efficiency fighting through so many variables and different routes that can be taken to get there it can be mind boggling....

not quite what you were looking for but i am getting back into the swing of things which is the first step.

spent some time on a SPi OS...still using my E6600 32M OS up to this point. nothing like a little quality in an OS that
you don't understand a word in. coming along nicely but i still feel like there should be another couple seconds in this
setup. could just be the Classy (759) and this old ass BIOS showing their age.

Volts on the dimms ehhh?.....To be honest, I was curious too... :D
....so I fed them with 1.9Volts...... FIRST time on these rams....
I used to work them with 1.743Volts and I said: "What the heck!"..... :D

They can do 32M @ 1104MHz at 7-7-6-20-1T-60 at only 1.78Volts and 7-7-5-20-1T-55 at 1.81Volts... :D

@ mike: Sorry, but I can`t take on the score.

Yeah, no worries at all, becuase at this point I am pretty sure that that run was actually just as bugged just like this one:

http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/7622/buggedj.jpg (http://img199.imageshack.us/i/buggedj.jpg/)

Something happens close to the uncore limit that causes some timers to get really messed up. So please disreagrd both of these!

this would be a nce submission - no? Good thing it doesn't show CPU tweaker...and invalidates it too. BTW out file is valid after these bugger runs

the ASUS R3E BIOS is coming along nicely and 32M is now at the point that Gulftown can compete with Bloomfield
clock for clock...very very close at least. consider this a sneak peak of what the board is capable of with a Gulftown
in the driver seat. its been a while since i've done any 32M LCC, but for testing BIOS efficiency, this is the best way

the older BIOS's were about 4-5 seconds back around 5GHz. hopefully there is a little more there
but i think 32M efficiency is pretty much leveled out on this board.

thanks, its a Chilly1 SS phase change, not a pot.

Great result with such low uncore:eek:
thanks, the uncore sucks on this chip. absolute max on phase is around 4.3-4.4GHz, but RTL needs
to come way loose for even that much.

i am going to put the GTX2's under cold some time soon and try for 219.5*23. i am thinking that
can get into the 6's as well if RTL can stay tight...maybe even less.

bah, 5 jigahrtz is nothing for single stage...well, for B1 anyway. i've been running 1.65v vCORE for a solid month now on single stage at -30C the coldest. wish i could say high VTT as well but i can't, see below.

we'll see about that ;):D
good looking stuff from camp Jigabyte in 32M land

lower on memory clocks, but much higher on uncore...should be interesting to see how things shake out between these boards. i am kind of stuck at this point with the chip i have, uncore over 4400MHz just won't go no matter what. insta freeze at 1.425v VTT or higher :(

dinos22
04-04-2010, 02:54 PM
you will degrade your chip quick on SS i think

for high uncore try using 1.6+vtt

you will degrade your chip quick on SS i think

its run most of the day for over a month at those voltages...what is your definition of quick? :)

you might have missed it, anything over 1.425v VTT instantly freezes, or simply won't POST if set in the BIOS. same thing on multiple boards. yeah, absolutely no way of getting more out of it

the bios needs to be edited to remove that issue Jody...i know UD7 had some issues of similar nature but it was some bios restriction i think.....could be your chip too of course

looks like you are ok with the chip...thats good :)

I'm really interested in your tests when your review sample comes for UD9. You should not have these VTT issues so NB will improve unless chip related of course.

others using the R3E don't have the issue and it is the exact same measured VTT on both the R3E and 759 Classy. others have also reported their retail chips to do the same thing at various VTT's, so i have all but given up hope that it is BIOS related and simply the chip.

haha, i was just thinking, i shouldn't be talking smack about this chip not having any issues with vCORE like that on single stage...as soon as you open your mouth with this stuff, the hardware has a way of making an ass out of you :D

it is so much fun benching memory sub-zero, just frustrating without a solid CPU to push clocks.
this is the best i can do with 6-6-5 timings for the sub 8min block.

hey Johno that's not the point of this thread
you need to try and get the lowest possible frequency with a sub 6/7/8/9m runs

hence you need to shoot for 8m59s with lowest possible frequency you can achieve

this thread will have you sharpen up our pi skillz in no time :)

Roger Dino, i will work on it soon :)
Now send me that UD 9 hahahaha
