Here are some Frazetta, Whelan, and others that I have had floating around. Use them and abuse them.

The second one from the bottom looks Cthulhu-related.

I thought for a second those were drawn by Boris Vallejo the most incredibly talented phantasy artists ever.
but alas, they dont have 1/2 the detail of a boris vallejo drawing.
most of his work is done using live human models for the bodies and then he adds all the phantasy and monster stuff.

everysingle one of those, although i can not veriy the artist on all of them, are hand drawn/painted and do not in any way shape or form belong in a photochop forum section.

but its nice to see someone else appreciating those artists work(s)

you can almost always tell Boris' art as he signs them BORIS@"year of drawing" ie; BORIS@89
he has been doing work since the 70's and possibly prior.
he was the original artist in the conan series an has drawn covers for thousands of fantasy books, movies, and posters.

We all have our opinions, especially regarding art. IMO Boris is trite, boring, and expected, cheesy even. Yes his detail of the human form is well-rendered, but the fantasy content of his art is lacking: generic and superficial.

Micheal Whelan did the Elric pics, don't know who did the cthulhu pic, Hildebrandt brothers did the wizard pic, and Frank Frazetta did the others. anywhere else in this forum to post them? WFG perhaps? they are decent pics that I wanted to share with the community

I actually went to high school with a guy named Dan Dos Santos who has done a bunch of illustrations for book covers and card games like Magic the Gathering. His gallery is here: http://www.dandossantos.com/gallery/gallery.html

Wow, that's a pretty impressive gallery of work from that Dan Dos Santos guy. I'm not big on the fantasy stuff, but talent is talent!

I really appreciate this post. There are two in there that I have been looking for but never could remember who the artist was, and one that a friend of mine will very happy about (he's tried to explain it to me several times but I had not seen and therefore couldn't picture what he was describing until actually seeing it) also. Thanks B.

- just out of curiosity, what is your opinion of Dorian Clevenger? one of my favorites

glad you like it, I was hoping others would enjoy this stuff. Dorian C? I'm not familiar with that artist. my range is really quite limited, I posted just about everything I really enjoy, fantasy-wise. If you enjoy a good sword & sorcery book, try the Elric series - that Micheal Whelan did the cover art for - as posted above. the albino sorcerer prince. classic. definitive even.

I am not that much of a "reader" these days, but work has gotten kind of slow lately so I may just take you up on that. Are they (the Elric series) still in print that I could find at a local book store?

Here is a good link I found with a lot of killer fantasy art http://www.aumania.it/fa_index.html Click on the "Dorian Clevenger" link. Amazing stuff in my opinion.

Michael M. began putting these books out in the early 70's. You can usually find them in reprint in any bookstore that has a decent fantasy section. Just make sure you get the first 6 books. He has alot of Elric stuff he wrote later, that is OK, but definitely not as good as the original series. Later reprints have combined 2 books in 1 from the original series. Amazon has some used copies cheap
