pci-x is outdated at this point, its not like there is a cost diffrence in new iscsi or raid cards for pci-e 8x and pcix
and i love the new socket and its rectangular action, im not sure why but it just looks cooler
then look at the massive potential 96GB of ram and 12cores

pci-x is outdated at this point, its not like there is a cost diffrence in new iscsi or raid cards for pci-e 8x and pcixYeah, but legacy support and stuff. In-place upgrades etc.

I havent seen a PCI-X card in the servers for...few years now? Only in the very old ones.

I think this will be one of the rare times where a platform upgrade shows good gains.

That'd be 24 cores with magny cours no? 12 cores/socket right?

most OEM providers deliver PCI-e to PCI-x board plugins to remain compatible, but then again time to move forward.
if mobos are out there so are the ES chips for evaluation ;)
don't forget, new platform and cpu are based on existing istanbul and fiorano platform that will soon be released.
they will release this rather fast, they have to against the new nehalem platform.

if the AMD's offer is gonna be good on G34, i'm going to 2P 6x2cores and next going to 2x12 cores.
16go will be the minimum. maybe going to 32go, or more.
Hopefully this is now with the "right" chipset. HT3 to the NB and IOMMU.
