What should I use to paint an old case? I really just want to paint it black because white looks really ugly. What are the steps used to paint a case??

Thanks,

The best and easiest way to paint one is to strip it down to barebones and spray paint it. That's the easiest way to get into all the little grooves and edges.

do you have any spray paint that you recommend?

Car Bodywork paints and lacquers always work best and give nicest finish.

Always use a good matched undercoat and never skimp on the coats. Sand & degrease all surfaces prior to starting. Lacquer topcoat to prevent scratches.

i wanna paint the interior of my case black to match the exterior. i want everything in the case black unless its hardware without a case of its own (ie: hard drives, vid-card, pci cards stay paintless, cd-drives, psu painted black). i think it would have a unique look with the black lights and green uv stuff i have in it. just need some time to do it though. shine isnt necessary, but i bet that would like nice. should i spray paint like mentioned earlier, or would that be too hard for the hard-to-reach places?

You have to flat-pack the case before painting. Drill out all the rivets so your sat there with a pile of metal plates. Paint everything as required. Give it a week to dry properly, then reassemble using Nuts n' bolts, or self-tapping screws, or rerivet it if you have a rivet gun...

One flat packed chieftec after painting... waiting reassembly.... excludes fascia, top, base and side panels...

yeah thats truely amazing. Is sanding required for a decent paint job?? What exactly do you do?

Grab wet'n'dry and sand the metal... just gives it a decent surface to stick to...

3 to 6 coats of undercoat (with full drying time between each coat, then 48hr cure time, then 6 to 8 layers of top coat (if doing it properly)

I think on THAT case Fliptone (my painty-specialist) it was just 2 coats undercoat, 3 coats topcoat, 2x coats lacquer.
