View Full Version : Temp sensor issue on Phenom II 940

I've been having an odd issue for the last month or so with my Phenom II. Apparently my CPU temp sensor is stuck in windows (Vista Ultimate 64 bit).

Everest gives me a constant reading of 22C on the CPU sensor, but reads 0C for the individual cores. AOD gives a reading of 31C, and will not change regardless of the actual temp. Speedfan and Coretemp both read 0C.

In the BIOS, I think I'm getting an actual reading, as it sits at 34C, but occasionally fluctuates up or down a degree.

When I first installed the processor I would get a normal reading, but after a month or two, this issue suddenly popped up. I haven't OC'd much and the problem arose when I was running completely at stock.

Since running into this problem I have updated the BIOS twice (from 0602 to 0703 then to 0803). I also did a complete fresh install of Windows, and there was no change.

Any ideas? Thanks

Have you tried AsusProbe ? It always gave a plausible reading with my 720

AsusProbe does work...any ideas on why no other monitoring program will work?

I can always match the values from SpeedFan to the CPU & MB values from AsusProbe. Also SpeedFan shows an additional CPU/Core like temperature, it would be interesting to see if this additional temperature changes where your other monitoring programs show it as a fixed value.

Asus mobos + Everest = always gave me bad cpu readings. The Prob works but doesn't give you core temp

The weird thing is that it worked perfectly fine on this mobo with this processor for about a month, THEN it stopped working. If it was an Everest/Asus compatibility problem, I would think it would either never work, or always work.

New bios maybe?, mine did same when i did a flasha... a reflash did cure the problem but mine was a dfi card

Yep, I've seen people who flash a new BIOS and the DTS is either deactivated or unaccessible, which results in Core Temp and other similar programs showing 0C

No...it was working fine with the 0703 bios, then it suddenly stopped working. When the 0803 bios came out, I flashed to that, and was still getting the same problem.

I still vote for reflash + cmos clear ;)

Well...I flashed from 0803 back to 0703, then back to 0803 again with no change in any of the readings. Any other ideas on this one? Anyone else have similar issues?

I was having a similar problem with the 1301 Bios from ASUS. Today I updated to the 1302 Bios and I now have this particular problem fixed. In the release notes ASUS takes ownership to the problem. Maybe your board has the same problem as mine did and ASUS hasn't fixed the BIOS for your particular board yet. Here is a screen shot from ASUS to give you a little insight.....

...Eitherway I hope you get it fixed soon, but I bet it is a ASUS BIOS problem.

Thanks...I couldn't find talk of any issues on the Asus forums, so I think my chances of a fix are slim! I'll just have to deal with Everest for most of my temp readings and speedfan for my CPU temp reading. Thanks for everyone's input on this!
