I have this old HP Zv5034us/5000t lying around, still being used occasionally, that I would like to get up to speed. I recall it has some aging PIV with a sweet Radeon 9000 (Plays CS:S :yepp:). However, the laptop kind of started faltering after my parents dropped it once (Optical drive died). After sending it to HP and getting it back, the drive died again after a few months (keep in mind this was in 2006)...

So, right now it's fully functional without an optical drive, but I don't know how to go about replace the optical drive on such a computer... is there some standard form factor for this class of notebooks? A quick google revealed the cheapest drive to be $60 which is just insane.

The notebook also has 512MB RAM, which I also hope to be able to upgrade.
