Ya im jazzed like no other!

this is going to be my first time benching i7

i have had the chip for a while but could not afford the board until now :(

i hope i dont blow anything up....

*********

I will be benching both the i7 920 and the i7 965 in this competition , think the 920 can compete with the 965? we will find out!

I wont be on LN2 for a few more days, but this chip has a lot more headroom on AIR. one thing holding me back is RAM my DDR3 is not overclocking friendly... :(

The weather here has been rather cold, somewhere around -10c Im thinking of taking the rig out side for some good ole chilled air overclocking!

had to run out and buy all new i7 equipment, could only pay for it by selling my PC Gaming equipment.

Stuck benching on a crappy old CRT that makes my eyes hurt.... (Borrowed from parents basement)

sold the 22'' LCD for the Liquid Nitrogen Fund :)

I lol'd @ the AMD Phenom II equipment I forgot about in the background :P

LN2 pot cost me $500.00 USD

the big tank of LN2 (180L) cost me $250.00 per fill :(

I cant wait to put this i7 on LN2, there is some serious performance inside this chip just waiting to get out!

How long have you been running that tagan 1300w psu and what do you think of it?

I have been running the Tagan BZ-1300W for over a year, it has been my best overclocking Power Supply never failed me :)
although it could use an aggregated rail with large amperage.

Whats the deal with two psu(s)? You running the gpu's off the ultraxpro 750 and the Tagan is carrying the cpu/mobo? Are you having to ballance the load on the second psu with hdds and stuff?

I was using each PSU to test if the higher amperage single rail Ultra 750w would have a benefit over the lower amperage multi rail Tagan PSU

There was no noticeable Overclocking difference on air testing, but i believe the CPU will require a much larger rail on LN2 when it is pulling 1.7vcore @ 5GHz +

Just put my new Core i7 940 CPU under LN2 for the first time, after about 5L of LN2 and 30 minutes later I reached a nice 4.6GHz on a 210 Bclk

Temperature was -85c on the IHS and CPU Core voltage was measured at 1.63v

I believe this chip has a lot more to show :)

This weekend will be a blast as i use the i7 965 XE for pure memory MHz and the i7 940 for CPU MHZ over 5GHZ!!!! :)

Core voltage above 1.600v resulted in very unstable benchmarks.

not really as much voltage as i would have liked!

With liquid nitrogen cooling I was able to cool the chip down to about -175c during load.

cold bug boot was about -140c

I am too. All the good stuff is sold out. I have been looking at the Kingston HyperX 3x2 GB DDR3 2000 cas 8. They are Elpida chips and only $245.99 at the egg. Just wish they would get them in stock. The $245.99 was a price misquote that sold out instantly (I was luckily able to get one of these kits). That is actually the price for a 3x1GB kit. I think you will be waiting a long time for Newegg to put them up at that price again. Also the Cas 9 2000Mhz from Kingston (http://i4memory.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2142&d=1230651681) are Samsung HCF0 chips

Nice results! Are you using setfsb or just booting at those speeds from bios?

The $245.99 was a price misquote that sold out instantly (I was luckily able to get one of these kits). That is actually the price for a 3x1GB kit. I think you will be waiting a long time for Newegg to put them up at that price again. Also the Cas 9 2000Mhz from Kingston (http://i4memory.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2142&d=1230651681) are Samsung HCF0 chips

They still show it to be that price and I just purchased the 3x1GB kit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104082) for $119.99 last Friday. Who knows, I can't call it. I heard the 3x1GB were Samsungs but wasn't for sure.

That kit you link to is HCf0 also... HCF0 based kits are much cheaper. If you can bin a good pair they are actually comparable to the elpidas with cas 8 and cas9 clocking (but elpidas win with cas7)

The Kingston elpida kits are much more expensive and its $245.99 for 3x1GB and $529 iirc for the 3x2GB kit (at launch maybe slightly less expensive now). The sheer limited availability of these chips right now ensures high prices. Elpida cant get enough of the "good" hyper IC's out to even meet demand.

Thank you TheKarmakazi,

Yes I have been working in the bios for overclocking and booting into windows, currently I am only posting stable clocks that pass WPrime 1024M.

I will use SetFSB at a later time if needed :)

I guess im just old skewl and love overclocking in the bios too much :)
My friends say I spend more time in bios than any Operating System :)

With D0 A world record is in reach! I have already validated 5.4GHz on the D0 but I do not know if they are allowed in the competition.....

Im going to boost mt 3Dmark scores on HWbot first

going to focus on the 3DMark 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006

For vantage I will need to use a pair of Nvidia GTX 295's

I would focus on Super Pi but i dont have the best tweaking skills.

I am a master when it comes to WPrime so i will blast through 32M and 1024M benches for pure 8 core performance!

how is the dry ice benching going?

I have 5 airgases within 20 minutes of my house. Only one sells LN2. They want $5/L :(

There's a Praxair that charges $2.50/L for my 25L Dewar. But even ~$64 after taxes is a lot when you're making minimum wage :(. The guys were nice last time (my only time) and gave me ~18L when I paid for 5L. Any tips on getting/asking for a better rate without sounding like a :banana::banana::banana:? :)

I hear that it's bad on the west coast. :-/ Something about them not actually producing LN2 there but rather transporting it from the east...I never had to haggle. I went to an airgas in Massachusetts and got $1/l the first time, and every time after that. I also went to one in South Carolina and it was $1.25/l, first time, and the same every time. You might want to make sure that you're getting industrial grade and not medical grade...it should be a lot cheaper.

Thing with airgas is though, if you call up the number you get on the website it goes to some central office which will quote rates that are much higher than the ones you'll actually get. Pretty often if even you call the local branch up, they'll tell you a much higher price on the phone than what they give you when you walk in. :S
