Alright so everyone who sells netbooks sucks, they leave out like everything worth telling about it in their specs so it seems so this is what I'm looking for:

10-12in
has a nice big keyboard
keyboard much like a macbook with the raised keys I dont like the plastic sharp ones.
a mouse where I can double click on the pad, and go up and down on the pad again like a macbook
One with the newest Intel Atoms why dont more have them?
Good battery life
Most likely a led backlit screen
decent speakers

(I know I said macbook twice but I dont want one I am replacing mine for a netbook). So who makes something along these lines and is under $500

No one does at the moment and probably never will. Sorry for the doom and gloom.

Just too much "high end" stuff for a low end notebook.

well I'm willing to compromise how about the good keyboard and mouse trackpad that I can do my clicking on instead of buttons

$500 is impossible.

MSI's X320 and X340 are pretty nice though. They actually look like a Macbook (Air).

Starting from $700 (Atom 1.6)

Then there's the Asus EEE 1000HE. It has the keyboard you want and 9.5 hours battery life. No pricing info yet.

does the trackpad allow for 2 finger scrolled down a page or clicking or do you need to use the buttons? Does its processor use the new Intel Atom Z530? I dont get these mobile processor names 280 is Intel Atom Z530 or whuh?
I see it comes with a CD, it doesn't have a cd drive though does it? Too bad they couldn't offer the crap on the disc on a cheap flash drive, gotta love flash drives for these guys I'm sure.
How hot do these things get?

IIRC, it also has the multi-touch capable touchpad like the rest of the
newer asus netbooks.

There are three Atom families:
Z5x0 for MIDs -- lowest power, but special bus, only compatible with
Poulsbo chipset (US15W-US11L)
N2x0 for netbooks -- a bit higher consumption, standard GTL-FSB bus
230/330 for nettops -- higher consumption

All three have roughly the same performance clock-for clock, but have
slightly different power consumption, and different pricing.

Z530 is 1.6G 133/533FSB
N280 is the newer 1.66G 166/667FSB

I like the EEE1000 myself. Yes, that's without any lettering behind the number. After 'aligning' the drive and placing XP with the appropriate tweaks on it, it's the quickest system I've ever used. I didn't even need to upgrade to 2gb of ram.

It's keyboard is 95% of standard and with my big hands, I don't mind using it.

Out of the features you asked for, it's got all except the NEWEST Atom (Z280, no x64, but can be clocked up to 2ghz if you wanted although some can hit upwards of 2.2!) and the slimline keyboard. Also, the speakers are kinda.. light, but that's what headphones are for. Can be had for $400 and is the only EEE model with 2 MiniPCIE slots already on the board. It's got one 8gb flash (SLC) and a 32gb (MLC), but it's a snap to install a larger MiniPCIE flash drive from Newegg.

I was worried about it being slow and chuggy, but honestly I prefer it to my beefy laptop. It's just that nice.

oooooh I thought the 530 was newer, how are they getting 9 hours of battery life with th 280?

The N280 has slightly lower consumption; the main difference
comes from that monster of a battery (8700mAh or what was
that? In contrast: most netbooks come with a 3-cell 2200mAh
battery..) and probably it's got a lower-voltage 945G chip,
too.

Reznik/Vash :p:
doesn't the plain 1000 have that 32GB in the form of an SD-
card?

Nope. The second flash is indeed a MiniPCIE card. You just can't get to it without stripping off the shell, but you can see part of it when you remove the panel to the 8gb card.

And.. while it appears to be Vash, I swear it isn't.

The older dual-SSD EeePC 900's also have a second mini PCIe slot. Typing from one now. If only Asus made their products better--I've only had it for ~10 months now, but the hinge is seperating and the sticker with the serial # is the worst. They used a white sticker printed with grey ink and then another layer of black ink. Put simply, their plan seems to be to make your sticker wear off before your warranty is up, as to not have to honor it long.

How are these things on heat by the way?

I also have the older EEEPC 900, 20GB SSD, 1GB RAM model

With regards to the trackpad question - they are very good, it does multi-touch upto 3 fingers. You can assign any finger gesture to a range of commands.

For example pressing 3 fingers on the trackpad makes my browser window go back to the previous page. Holding 1 finger on the trackpad and double tapping with a second finger brings up the magnifying glass.

There are plenty of options for scrolling vertically, horizontally, squeezing pages smaller/bigger, etc.

So to answer your question the trackpad on an ASUS EEEPC does a lot :D

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Samsungs NC-10, i've personally tested it for exactly 8 hours (full day at work), with wi-fi on when i left work it still had some battery left.
